NCBWA Announces Midseason Watch List for 2009 Stopper of the Year Award

Birmingham, Ala. (NCBWA) — Forty-five relief pitchers are included on the midseason watch list for the fifth annual National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year Award, the association announced Thursday. The award is given to the top relief pitcher in NCAA Division I college baseball.

Junior third baseman Chris Dominguez of Louisville turned down a multi-million dollar offer last season from the Colorado Rockies after being selected in the fifth round. He believes that his decision to stay in school will raise his draft stock for the 2009 MLB draft which I tend to agree with.

(DURHAM, N.C.) – USA Baseball announced its preseason Golden Spikes Award Watch List Tuesday, marking the organization’s first step toward identifying the top player in college baseball. Sponsored by Major League Baseball, the Golden Spikes Award will be presented in 2009 for the 32nd time.
