GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – The Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Championship will be held at NewBridge Bank Park in Greensboro, N.C. (2012), and the Durham Bulls Athletic Park (2011, 2013), as announced today by ACC Commissioner John Swofford. After the end of pool play, Florida State and Virginia were left standing for the ACC title game. The Cavaliers won their pool by posting a perfect 3-0 record, and Florida State went 2-1 in their pool and advanced to the finals via a tiebreaker. DURHAM, N.C. – John Hicks (Fr., Sandy Hook, Va.) hit a two-run single in the ninth inning to break a 3-3 tie and lift the No. 14 Virginia baseball team to a 6-3 victory over Florida State in the title game of the ACC Baseball Championship Sunday at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, N.C. Virginia, the sixth seed, is the lowest seed to ever win the tournament crown after winning four games in four days to earn the ACC’s automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. Share The 2009 ACC Tournament begins on Wednesday with the top eight teams split into two separate divisions. Division A contains Florida State, Boston College, Georgia Tech, and Miami (FL). Division B consists of North Carolina, Duke, Clemson, and Virginia. The Florida State Seminoles ended up winning the Atlantic Division title while North Carolina won the Coastal Division title. According to several published reports, the ACC has awarded the 2011, 2012, and 2013 Baseball Championships to the city of Myrtle Beach. The games will be played at BB&T Coastal Stadium which is the home of the Myrtle Beach Pelicans which are a member of the Carolina League. Read the rest of this entry »

Share Durham Bulls Athletic Park

Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, N.C., will be the site of the 2009 Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Championship, Commissioner John D. Swofford announced today.
The 10,000-seat downtown stadium is home to the city’s Triple-A team and will serve as the host venue for the 13-game tournament May 20-24.
Boston’s Fenway Park was originally scheduled to host this year’s ACC Baseball Championship, but the Fenway Sports Group was forced to defer until 2010 after discovering an in-house scheduling error in mid-August. That left the ACC to pursue a new site for 2009, and the Durham Bulls were able to accommodate the Championship despite the relatively short notice.

Share Due to a mixup by the Boston Red Sox, the ACC Baseball tourney has been removed from Fenway Park after a scheduling mixup between the Boston Red Sox and the Fenway Sports Group. The reason behind this is the fact that the Boston Red Sox gave the wrong dates to Major League Baseball and have scheduled games for that weekend. Read the rest of this entry »

(AP/theACC.com) – The University of Miami sent 10 batters to the plate during a four-run first inning and went on to defeat Virginia, 8-4, Sunday afternoon to clinch the championship game of the 2008 Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Championship at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.

Clemson hit three home runs, including a seventh-inning grand slam by Ben Paulsen, to defeat #24 Georgia Tech 10-4 on Saturday in the ACC Tournament at The Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.
