RICHMOND, Va. (January 15, 2009) – George Mason senior outfielder Scott Krieger was selected as the 2009 CAA baseball preseason Player of the Year in voting by the league’s head coaches.

Krieger batted .381 with 16 doubles, a school-record 21 homers and 60 RBI in 2008 and has already been named to preseason All-America teams selected by Collegiate Baseball and Ping! Baseball. Krieger earned second-team All-CAA honors a year ago and was a first-team all-conference pick as a sophomore after hitting .365 with 20 homers and 68 RBI. He also received CAA All-Tournament team accolades in 2008 after belting five homers and setting tournament records with 14 RBI and 32 total bases in four games. Krieger is on pace to become Mason’s career leader in several offensive categories.

The 2008 All-Conference teams were announced at the annual WAC postseason awards banquet. Fresno State swept the individual honors as the WAC Player of the Year award went to Fresno State’s Steve Susdorf, WAC Pitcher of the year went to Tanner Scheppers and the WAC Coach of the Year was a tie between Fresno State’s Mike Batesole and San Jose State’s Sam Piraro.

FRISCO, Texas – The 2008 All-Southland Conference Baseball teams were announced today by the league office as UTSA junior outfielder Michael Rockett was voted Player of the Year by the league’s head coaches and sports information directors. Eleven member institutions compose the 2008 All Conference teams with league champion UTSA claiming the most roster selections with seven.

Rockett, a Sugar Land, Texas native, finished the 2008 regular season in the top six in seven league offensive categories including third in hits (84), second in runs batted in (68) and tied for first in total bases (149). A Collegiate Baseball Newspaper player of the week recipient, Rockett is the first Roadrunner to claim the Southland’s highest accolade since Mark Schramek in 2002 and just the second all time.

Texas State compiles three of the five first team infield positions with first base selection and Hitter of the Year honoree Paul Goldschmidt taking home dual honors. The only sophomore on the league’s first team list, Goldschmidt ran away with post season honor receiving 16 of 24 first place votes. The Woodlands, Texas native finished the 2008 regular season in the top-10 in eight offensive categories including the Southland’s homerun leader (17) and slugging percentage (.693).

IRVING, Texas — José Duran (Texas A&M) and Aaron Crow (Missouri) headline the 2008 All-Big 12 Baseball Awards as Big 12 Player and Pitcher of the Year, respectively, it was announced on Tuesday. Duran, a Fort Worth native, was also named Newcomer of the Year while Aggie mentor Rob Childress was tabbed Coach of Year. Rounding out the selections is Chance Ruffin (Texas), who earned Freshman of the Year.

The All-Big 12 awards are selected by the league’s head coaches, who are not allowed to vote for their own players.

Center Valley, Pa. – After earning the top seed in this weekend’s Patriot League Tournament, Army reaped the benefits of its stellar season by leading all teams with eight selections on the 2008 Patriot League Baseball All-League Team. The team was voted on by the League’s six head coaches, who could not vote for their own student-athletes.

The Black Knights placed three players on the first team, while five garnered second-team honors. Bucknell followed Army with seven selections, while Navy had six picks overall and a League-high five student-athletes that received first-team honors. The ACC has named the All-Conference teams, Coach of the Year, Player of the Year, Pitcher of the Year and Freshman of the Year. The conference named Tony Thomas Jr. of FSU as the Player of the Year as he led the Seminoles with a .439 average. Dustin Ackley (UNC) picked up the Freshman of the Year award as he led the conference in hitting .443. He also is tied with Tony Thomas Jr. for the national lead in hits with 101. Bryan Henry (FSU) was named the Pitcher of the Year with a 14-0 and a 2.50 ERA. Mike Marting Jr. picked up the Coach of the Year award by leading his Seminoles to the top seed in the ACC Tournament and probably a Regional host in the NCAA Tournament.
