BOONE, N.C. — Appalachian State University baseball holds its annual Fall World Series this weekend at Beaver Field at Jim and Bettie Smith Stadium. First-pitch times for the three-game, intrasquad series are set for 3 p.m. Friday, 7 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday. The games are open to the public and admission is free.

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference baseball coaches and the voting members of the Southern Conference Sports Media Association have each selected Elon as the preseason favorite to repeat as champion in 2009. A year ago, the Phoenix became the first team in seven seasons to win both the regular season and tournament titles en route to a 44-18 season and a berth in the NCAA Regionals. BOONE, N.C. — Appalachian State University head baseball coach Chris Pollard announced on Wednesday that nine high-school seniors, including eight of North Carolina’s top prospects, have signed National Letters of Intent to attend ASU. All nine start classes at Appalachian next fall and hit the diamond for the Mountaineers in 2010.
