 Head Coach Frtiz Hamburg- Saint Joseph

Fritz Hamburg has been named the head baseball coach at Saint Joseph’s University, it was announced today by director of athletics Don DiJulia. Hamburg was previously the associate head baseball coach at the United States Military Academy.
“We’re pleased and excited to have Fritz on board as he owns a rich and well-rounded background in baseball,” said DiJulia. “We look forward to him enhancing the student-athlete experience in and out of the classroom, and on and off the field.”

DAYTON, Ohio - One tournament and 24 home games headline the 2009 Flyer baseball campaign. In addition to their scheduled home games, the Flyers will compete in the Phoenix Classic, a four team round robin tournament which pits UD against teams from the BIG EAST, Missouri Valley Conference and West Coast Conference. Xavier Baseball Summer League Winners
CINCINNATI - Several members of the Xavier baseball team have had a successful summer break playing in summer leagues in the area. Congratulations to Billy O’Conner, Steve Brown, Ryan Bellamy and Charlie Leesman, members of the Cincinnati Steam, the 2008 Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League Champions. Danny Rosenbaum was a member of the North Woods League Champion Thunder Bay Border Cats. Additionally, several Musketeers were named to All-League as well as All-Star teams. Brandon Anderson Named Assistant Baseball Coach At Temple
PHILADELPHIA - Brandon Anderson, an All-American and professional baseball player who played two seasons at Gloucester County College under current Temple head coach Rob Valli, has been named an assistant baseball coach for the Owls. Anderson is currently in his second season playing professional baseball for the Kalamazoo Kings of the Frontier League.
“Brandon has always been an extremely talented and highly motivated student of the game, so his transition from player to coach should be easy,” Valli said. “He will be an excellent coach and role model for our team.”

Gamecocks set to welcome new baseball stadium
“There will not be a more impressive college baseball stadium in the country.” Those are the words of Athletic Director Eric Hyman in reference to USC’s new ballpark that will be opening in time for this year’s season.
Carolina fans sorrowfully said goodbye to Sarge Frye Field last year, a stadium rife with countless memories of players, coaches and unforgettable games. Nestled right below the Roost, the Sarge was the home site of Carolina baseball for 29 great seasons.

GLENS FALLS, N.Y. – Championship Series’ Most Valuable Player Ryan Nokelby (Texas Lutheran) plated Jeff Abrams (Binghamton) with a 10th-inning sacrifice fly as the Brockport Riverbats edged the Glens Falls Golden Eagles, 3-2, in 10 innings to win the 2008 New York Collegiate Baseball League championship. Canada’s entry in the World University Games defeated the Lethbridge Bulls of the Western Major Baseball League 12-1 Wednesday night. RF Ken Fuglerud (Saint Mary’s) hit a two-run home run, went 2-3 with 3 RBI. 1B Marshall MacDonald (Dayton) also hit a two-run home run, went 2-4 with 4 runs scored. CHARLOTTE, N.C., May 31, 2008 - Trailing 10-2 at the halfway point, James Madison fought back to outscore Charlotte 11-1 over the next two and a half innings and held on for a 13-12 win in an elimination game on Saturday afternoon in the Raleigh Regional of the 2008 NCAA Baseball Championship at Doak Field at Dail Park.
“I think that was a great college baseball game,” commented JMU head coach Spanky McFarland. “Obviously there were mistakes made by both teams, but you had two clubs that fought and clawed and didn’t want to go home. Raleigh, N.C. - Justin Smoak went 4-for-4 with three RBI and James Darnell and DeAngelo Mack added a pair of three-run homers as South Carolina opened up NCAA Regional play with a 15-8 win over Charlotte on Friday afternoon in Raleigh, N.C. at Doak Field. The Gamecocks advance to the winner’s bracket and will meet the winner of today’s NC State-James Madison game on Saturday evening at 7 pm. The NC State Wolfpack will host a Regional this year in Raleigh NC. They will be joined by James Madison, Charlotte, and South Carolina. NC State has a record of 38-20 while going a respectful 18-11 in the ACC. James Madison comes in with a 38-17 record with a 20-9 record in the CAA.
