Rob Valli PHILADELPHIA – Temple head baseball coach Rob Valli has added three players to his recruiting class–shortstop Adrian Perez (Woodland, CA / Woodland / Yuba CC), righthander pitcher Brian Sustersic (Orlando, FL / Dr. Phillips / Daytona State CC) and outfielder Bobby McCormick (Oakton, VA / Oakton). The trio will arrive on campus later this month to help the Owls pursue an Atlantic 10 Championship in 2010.

HankCoogan Hank Coogan, a standout catcher/outfielder at Richmond, has joined the Princeton baseball staff as an assistant coach. Coogan was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference Second Team as a senior in 2008 when he led the team with a .364 batting average.

“We are thrilled to add Hank to our staff,” said Scott Bradley, the Robert H.B. Baldwin ’42 Head Coach of Baseball at Princeton. “Hank was one of those players we would face that I would always check up on during the season to see how they were doing. He had a great college career and we are looking forward to have him work with our players beginning this fall.”

CINCINNATI – Xavier baseball head coach Scoot Googins has announced the addition of Nick Otte to the XU coaching staff. He will serve primarily as the pitching coach for the Musketeers after serving three years as an assistant at Miami (Ohio).

Rochelle Charlotte, N.C. – Charlotte head baseball coach Loren Hibbs has named former 49ers catcher Kris Rochelle to his coaching staff for the 2010 season. He will take over as hitting instructor and work with the catchers and infielders.

Rochelle had his pro playing career cut short, playing parts of three seasons of minor league baseball following his 2007 graduation and drafting by Detroit. He joins the Niners after two seasons with the Washington Wild Things and a season with the Oneonta Tigers.

"We are excited to have Kris back in our program," said Hibbs.

DaytonBaseball DAYTON, Ohio – The defending Atlantic 10 regular season champion Dayton Flyers have released their 2010 baseball schedule, which includes matchups against a pair of ACC opponents, as well as a number of games against regional rivals.

"Our 2010 Schedule is highlighted with quality teams that will allow us to prepare for our Atlantic 10 schedule," said head coach Tony Vittorio. "We are excited and looking forward to the competition."

The schedule includes games against Horizon League tournament winners Wright State and Bowling Green, who captured the 2009 regular season MAC title.

camdennjPHILADELPHIA – Saint Joseph’s University and the Camden Riversharks have reached an agreement that will allow Saint Joseph’s to play its entire 25-game 2010 home schedule at Campbell’s Field in Camden, N.J.

The move to Campbell’s Field is the first step in the planned transition to playing home games at an on-campus facility in the near future. A new home field for the Hawks is included in the University’s master plan for the use of the space on the Maguire Campus that opened in 2008. Read the rest of this entry »

Loren Gibbs of Charlotte has announced that assistant Brandon Hall has been promoted to Associate Head Coach after serving the past seven seasons with the 49ers. In addition, he has been the recruiting coordinator for the past five seasons. “Over the past seven years, Brandon has developed into one of the top assistant coaches in this region,” said Hibbs. “He has displayed a tremendous work ethic, an incredible desire to improve and a loyalty to our program and this institution that is unmatched. He fits with our overall program philosophy and has been a major factor in our success in recent years. The first Coca-Cola Pitcher of the Week of 2009 hails from Bourne, with Braves pitcher Eric Cantrell securing that honor. Cantrell put on a masterful performance in the Braves’ first win of the year, a 5-1 victory over Wareham, recording eight shutout innings and improving to 1-0 on the season. Houston Regional host Rice and Xavier met in the afternoon game, playing for a spot in the regional final.  The Owls cruised to a 12-5 victory over the Muskateers, setting up a re-match of Saturday night’s Kansas State-Rice matchup in the finals.  Here is your day 3 recap for the Houston Regional.

HOUSTON — The Rice baseball team collected 15 hits, including eight for extra bases, and sailed behind a complete game pitching performance from junior right-hander Jared Rogers for a 12-5 win over visiting Xavier in the early game of the NCAA Houston Regional Sunday afternoon at Reckling Park. Junior Neil Lindgren’s two-run homer in the seventh scored the winning run for XU and senior shortstop Jordan Conley closed out the game on the mound for the Musketeers. Kansas State 16 Xavier 8

HOUSTON, Texas – Justin Bloxom went 5-for-5 at the plate with two home runs as 14th-ranked Kansas State cruised to a 16-8 win over Xavier in its first-ever NCAA Regional baseball game Friday afternoon at Reckling Park.

The Wildcats (42-16-1) belted 17 hits against the Musketeers (38-20) as Bloxom, Jordan Cruz (3-for-4), Carter Jurica (2-for-4) and Jason King (2-for-3) led the K-State offense in the opening game of the Houston Regional at Rice University. Read the rest of this entry »
