Share Nebraska head coach Mike Anderson has released the 2010 slate for his Cornhuskers. The Huskers finished a disappointing last place in the Big 12 last year but are looking to get back to being a mainstay at the College World Series like they were at the start of the decade.
The Huskers will begin the 2010 season on the West Coast, as they travel to California to take on Fresno State (Feb. 19-22) in a four game set. Nebraska will then visit Houston, Texas, to take part in the Rice Invitational (Feb. 26-28) where they will play games against Texas A&M Corpus Christi, host Rice, and Elon.

Share Baseball America recently put out their Top 25 College Baseball and High School Prospects for the 2010 MLB Draft. The college rankings are led by Bryce Harper who has received national attention for skipping his final two years of high school to play college baseball with Community College of Southern Nevada. The rest of the top five is Anthony Ranaudo from LSU, Deck McGuire from Ga Tech, Levon Washington from Chipola JC, and Chris Sale from Florida Gulf Coast. The rest of the top 25 is available below.

Share Taylor County High School baseball player Taylor Ratliff has orally committed to Jacksonville University over Florida State, Florida, and Troy University. In the Tallahassee Democrat article Ratliff states the following on his decision “They said I have all the ability and there isn’t any reason I shouldn’t start as a freshman, I will go in there with a good mindset and hopefully start as soon as I can.”

BUIES CREEK, N.C. — As the fall practice schedule gets underway at Taylor Field the Campbell baseball program welcomes 16 newcomers including seven that have come to the team as a result of the summer recruiting period. These seven new Fighting Camels are expected to make an immediate impact in the Campbell lineup this season.
Four junior college transfers highlight the summer recruiting for the Fighting Camels including two pitchers who helped their squads reach the postseason, including one who made an appearance in the Junior College World Series.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – University of North Florida Director of Athletics Lee Moon announced today that Raymond “Smoke” Laval will take over as the new head baseball coach for the Ospreys. Laval will replace current head baseball coach Dusty Rhodes, who announced his retirement today, effective at the end of the 2010 season.
“We’re excited to have Raymond joining the UNF family,” said UNF President John A. Delaney. “He brings a wealth of experience to the plate and we look forward to him picking up where Dusty left off, continuing to build upon a strong baseball program here at the University.”

Share North Florida head coach Dusty Rhodes is set to retire after the 2010 season. He has overseen the program’s transition from NAIA to Division 1 while compiling a record of 879-420 heading into the upcoming season. He is set to make the announcement on Monday where UNF athletic director Lee Moon will name the successor.

Share The Cape Cod Baseball League has put out their 2009 All-Cape League team. It is led by CCBL MVP Kyle Roller from East Carolina and CCBL Top Pitcher Chris Sale from Florida Gulf Coast. The infield features first baseman Mickey Wiswall (Boston College), second baseman Pierre LePage (Uconn), shortstop B.A. Vollmuth (Southern Miss) and third baseman Jedd Gyorko (West Virginia). The two ultility infielders are Zach Cox (Arkansas) and Nick Crawford (UAB). The outfield is led by Todd Cunningham (Jacksonville State). The other four members of the All-League outfield are Gary Brown (CS-Fullerton), Austin Wates (Virginia Tech), Brian Fletcher (Auburn), and George Springer (UConn). The catchers are Mike Murray (Wake Forest) and Cody Stanley (UNC-Wilmington). Ryan Cuneo (Delaware) joins Roller as the All-League Designated Hitters.

YARMOUTH, Mass.– Red Sox hurler Chris Sale (Florida Gulf Coast) sailed to the top of the list of pitchers this season earning him the BFC Outstanding Pitcher Award for the 2009 Cape Cod Baseball League Season. Sale was received the award after the first game in Round 2 of the playoffs at Red Wilson Field.
“It’s exciting,” said Sale. “I never really checked my stats during the year. I didn’t really know how I was holding up to the rest of the pack as far ERA, strikeouts, and what not but it was very surprising and very gratifying.”

Share Kennesaw State enters the 2010 campaign as a full-fledged participant in Division I baseball. The Owls will have the opportunity to play in the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament and earn a birth in the NCAA Baseball Tournament. In 2009, Kennesaw State compiled a 30-22 overall record and posted a very impressive 20-9 mark in Atlantic Sun play.
The Owls will open the season with a six game homestand. The Liberty Flames will visit Kennesaw February 19-21, followed by the Samford Bulldogs on February 26-28.
