GregBeals MUNCIE, Ind. – Ball State baseball head coach Greg Beals officially released a 56-game schedule for the 2010 season, including 16 games at Ball Diamond. The Cardinals return 16 letterwinners, including six starters and eight pitchers, from the reigning Mid-American Conference West Division championship team.

The Cardinals’ rigorous 29-game non-conference schedule features five NCAA Tournament teams, including one College World Series participant (Arkansas) and one Super Regional participant (Louisville). Ball State’s 19 non-conference foes combined for a .570 (611-461) winning percentage last spring as 15-of-19 posted records above .500.

abca_BGOMAHA, Neb. – The American Baseball Coaches Association announced the ABCA/Rawlings Sporting Goods All-American teams on Wednesday, June 17.

Among the First Team honorees are six players participating in this year’s College World Series including Arizona State starting pitcher Mike Leake, LSU starting pitcher Louis Coleman, Arizona State catcher Carlos Ramirez, UNC first baseman Dustin Ackley, ASU outfielder Jason Kipnis and Virginia utility player Danny Hultzen. MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – A total of 37 standout freshmen college baseball players from every part of the country are featured on the annual Pro-Line Athletic National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Freshman All-American Team, the organization announced today.

The 2009 Pro-Line Athletic NCBWA Freshman All-American Team is comprised from 17 conferences and 10 conference championship teams. The two All-American squads are also made up of 12 conference “Rookie of the Year” winners.

Brandon Besl, Ohio, 3B
Senior, Cincinnati, Ohio (Oak Hills)

In the three-game series at Miami over the weekend, Besl went 10-for-15 with two doubles, four home runs, six RBIs and eight runs scored. He tallied his first multi-homer game of the year Friday (and second of his career) with two round-trippers, while collecting at least three hits and a homer in every game at Miami. Besl tallied two multi-RBI games at Miami and scored at least two runs each game over the weekend. For the week, the senior totaled 27 bases and had an on-base percentage of .583. He had just six homers entering the week, but finished the week with 10 on the year. Besl also extended his hitting streak to a career-long 15 games with at least one hit in all five games this week. Derek Spencer, Bowling Green, Third Base

Spencer had at least two hits and homered in every games last week as the Falcons won their series wtih Miami and went 3-1 on the week. Spencer was 3-for-5 with a two-run homer and three runs scored in non-league win over Toledo. He was 4-for-4 with two solo home runs and four runs scored in the series opener with Miami. Marc Krauss, Ohio, LF/3B
Junior, Deshler, Ohio (Patrick Henry)

Krauss had a monster week, belting five home runs in as many games during the week, giving him six homers in his last six games and moving him into a tie for ninth on Ohio’s career home runs list with 31. Five of his eight hits left the park for a slugging percentage of 1.211 and he walked four times, moving him into fifth place on Ohio’s career walks list (102), while helping him to an on-base percentage of .522 for the week. Tommy Nurre, Miami, First Base
Senior, Cincinnati, Ohio (St. Xavier)

Nurre led Miami to a 4-1 week, including the RedHawks’ first series sweep since April 27-29, 2007. Miami outscored its opponents 55-24 over the five-game week. Nurre was 11-for-20 for the week (.550) and recorded 10 runs and six RBIs while drilling six extra-base hits (four doubles and two home runs). He recorded an impressive 1.050 slugging percentage. Eldemire started all three games this weekend vs. Central Michigan and crushed three home runs, including his first-career multi-homer game Sunday when he hit a three-run bomb in the second frame and his first-career grand slam the following inning. Rohan had a career-high five hits and seven RBI in six at-bats and also scored a game-high four runs in the series finale against UNC Greensboro. He hit a two-run home run in the fourth and had his first career grand slam in the seventh. With the two home runs in the game, Rohan is currently tied for fifth in KSU history with 35 home runs. macCleveland, Ohio – Defending MAC Regular Season Champion Kent State and Western Michigan have been chosen by the league’s head coaches to win their respective divisions, released today by the league office. The Ball State baseball team heads into the 2009 season with its sights set on challenging for a Mid-American Conference championship as it returns 16 letterwinners from last season’s team which posted a 28-25 overall record and a 12-11 mark in conference play.
