usa-baseball-logo(CARY, N.C.) – Christian Colon (Cal State Fullerton) hit an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth inning as the Blue Team defeated the Red Team 2-0 in a seven inning intrasquad game on Sunday at the USA Baseball National Team (Collegiate) Trials.

With runners on the corners and two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning, Christian Colon (Cal State Fullerton) hit an RBI single to right field that easily scored Casey McGrew (Wright State) from third base. Tyler Holt (Florida State) nearly scored from first base on the play but Colon was thrown out at second before he crossed the plate. Read the rest of this entry »

usa-baseball-logo(CARY, N.C.) – Bryce Brentz (Middle Tennessee State) went 3-3 with a solo home run and the Blue Team picked up a 3-1 win over the Red Team at the USA Baseball National Team (Collegiate) Trials at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C.

Brentz wasted little time as he kicked off the scoring in the top of the second inning with a 390 foot home run to left centerfield on Red Team starter Drew Pomeranz (Mississippi) for the early 1-0 lead. Read the rest of this entry »

Louisiana State hosts the Baton Rouge Regional as the No. 3 national seed. The Tigers take on Southern in the opening game Friday at 1 p.m., and Baylor meets Minnesota in the nightcap at 6 p.m.

The losing teams from those games meet in an elimination game Saturday at 1 p.m., while the winners meet Saturday at 6 p.m. with a berth in the championship game on the line. OKLAHOMA CITY — Shaver Hansen was 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBI, leading Baylor to an 8-4 victory over Kansas in Saturday’s pool-play action at the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship at Bricktown Ballpark. (Victoria, Tx) The Victoria Generals of the Texas Collegiate League are excited to have Willie Kempf in their rotation for the summer. Willie was the 2009 Captain for The Baylor Bears. Last summer he was named to the Cape Cod League all-star squad. This spring Willie was the number 2 pitcher for the Bears with a 4-3 record and a 5.62 era. He struck out 45 in 41 innings while walking only 22.

Willie is a 6 foot 185 pound right handed pitcher who has just completed his junior year. Five times he has been named to the Big 12 Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll. Read the rest of this entry »

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — The No. 5 Texas Longhorns turned a complete-game effort by Chance Ruffin into a 9-3 win over Kansas Jayhawks in round robin action at the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark on Thursday afternoon.

With the win, Texas moved to 1-1 in round robin action and Kansas fell to 0-2. Texas needs a win by Kansas State over Baylor on Thursday evening and a UT win over Kansas State on Saturday to advance to Sunday’s title game.

The best of the Big 12 will be showcasing their skills in Oklahoma City this week.  While some teams are comfortably in the NCAA tournament field, other teams need to impress at Bricktown Ballpark to secure their bids.  Texas, the regular season conference champion, enters the tournament as winners of nine of their last ten games.  Oklahoma makes the twenty five mile drive up I-35 as the 2 seed with ideas of winning a conference tournament championship and locking up a regional host bid.  Missouri enters the tournament as the 3 seed, having won eight of their last ten games.  Kansas State, fresh off a series loss to rival Kansas, will again face the Jayhawks in the opening round 4/5 matchup.  Read the rest of this entry »
