Bethune-Cookman University Head Baseball Coach Mervyl Melendez announced 13 early signees to attend B-CU and play baseball for the Wildcats in 2009-2010.

“We addressed many of the needs we will have in the future for our baseball program,” said Melendez of his 2009-2010 recruiting class. “This is our biggest recruiting class ever (previous high was 10 signees). Ole Miss 14 Bethune-Cookman 1

CORAL GABLES, Fla. — Michael Guerrero crushed a pair of home runs during a 10-run sixth-inning to help Ole Miss dismantle Bethune-Cookman 14-1 Saturday in an elimination game at the NCAA Miami Regional at Mark Light Field.

Cody Overbeck also homered as the Rebels advance to play Sunday at 11 a.m. CT against the loser of Saturday’s second game between Missouri and host Miami.

Miami 6 Missouri 5 (FINAL)

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – - No. 2-seed Mizzou fell to top-seed Miami by a score of 6-5 on Saturday in the NCAA Coral Gables Regional and will now need to win three-straight games in order to keep its season alive. After the Tigers tied the game with two runs in the top of the eighth inning, Miami retook the lead in the bottom half of the eighth.

Mizzou (39-20) fell behind 5-0 after three innings, but cut the lead to two with a three-run fifth inning and tied the game when junior Steve Gray hit a two-run home run in the top of the eighth inning. However, the Hurricanes answered by plating what would be the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth.

Missouri 7 Ole Miss 0

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – - Junior All-American Aaron Crow recorded his fourth shutout of the season as Mizzou opened its sixth-consecutive NCAA Regional with a 7-0 win over Ole Miss on Friday in Coral Gables, Fla. The Miami Hurricanes head back to the NCAA Tournament as the top seed in the entire 64 team tournament and will host a Regional in Coral Gables at Mark Light Stadium. The Canes have a 47-8 overall record while going a solid 23-5 in the tough ACC. They will be joined by Missouri and Ole Miss. The Tigers have a 38-19 record while going 16-11 in the Big 12. Ole Miss on the other hand is 37-24 with a conference mark of 15-15. Missouri will send their ace to the mound on Friday to face off against Ole Miss ace Lance Lynn which is one of the top pitching matchups in the first round of the tourney. The final team in the Regional is Bethune-Cookman 36-20 and an outstanding 17-1 in the MEAC. Read the rest of this entry »

Bethune-Cookman 10 South Florida 3

TAMPA, Fla. – The University of South Florida baseball team lost, 10-3, to Bethune-Cookman Wednesday night at Red McEwen Field.

The Bulls drop to 25-21 overall while the Wildcats improve to 30-17.

Junior Chris Rey was 3-for-4 in the game with one RBI and a run scored, while junior Addison Maruszak added a two-hit outing to the Bulls’ offense.

Freshman Zach Pietrzyk made his longest start, and appearance, of his rookie campaign against the Wildcats, striking out two in his 4.1-inning outing. He allowed five runs from seven hits to take his second loss of the year. Read the rest of this entry »

Notre Dame 5 Northern Illinois 4

CHICAGO, Ill. – The Northern Illinois baseball team could not snap No. 29 Notre Dame’s ten-game winning streak as the Huskies fell, 5-4, in front of a school-record 4,600 fans at U.S. Cellular Field on Wednesday night.

In a game that had four lead changes, the Fighting Irish (23-9-1) came out on top after a three-base Huskie error in the eighth inning allowed Notre Dame’s Ross Brezovsky to give the Irish a 5-4 lead on an RBI groundout.

The Huskies (15-17) plated two runs in the first inning to take a 2-0 lead off an RBI single from Justin Behm (Downers Grove, Ill./North) that scored Pat Minogue (Crystal Lake, Ill./Central), who led off the game with a single to center. A sacrifice fly from Dave Reynolds (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg) plated Jeff Thomas (Loves Park, Ill./Harlem) for NIU’s second run. Read the rest of this entry »

We have some interesting Mid-Week games coming up on Tuesday which is highlighted by Clemson and Georgia playing a home and home series. The College of Charleston will play against cross town rival Charleston Southern while Alabama will play two games against UAB, Ohio State plays Toledo, Coastal Carolina will play against Wake Forest and Elon.
