Teams from around the nation will start up fall practices where they will have 45 days to conduct 33 fall practices with that being said the Texas Longhorns will be conducting scrimmages at several different locations. Primarily, they will be using the Dell Diamond which serves as the home of the Houston Astros AAA team.

Baseball Digest Daily Podcaster Eric SanInocencio recently talked with current Missouri pitcher Aaron Crow who recently turned down a multi-million dollar deal with the Washington Nationals. He was the ninth overall selection in the 2008 draft but could not come to terms thus the reason why he will be playing with the independent league Fort Worth Cats. Crow has picked up many national awards including being named the 2008 Roger Clemens award winner as the top collegiate pitcher. Crow’s stock skyrocketed last summer with an impressive Cape Cod League All-Star game where he hit 98 MPH and an impressive junior season which saw him go 13-0 with a 2.35 ERA. HOUSTON, TX - Missouri pitcher Aaron Crow is the winner of the 2008 Roger Clemens Award. Crow was presented the award by Roger Clemens on Monday, August 25, 2008.

The Roger Clemens Award honors the top pitcher in college baseball each year. Crow was undefeated in 2008 with a 13-0 record and a 2.35 earned run average with the Missouri Tigers. Crow struck out 127 batters in 107.1 innings, leading Missouri to the NCAA Regionals. In addition to winning the Roger Clemens Award, the junior from Wakarusa, Kan., was the Big 12 pitcher of the year and a finalist for the Golden Spikes Award.

We recently ran across an article out of the Seattle Times that talks about some of the best prospects for the 2009 draft. Larry Stone wrote the article where he talks with a CBB reader in Keith Law of ESPN and John Manuel of Baseball America. Both of them clearly state that Stephen Strasburg is the top player in the 2009 draft after competing on the 2008 Olympic team and lighting up radar guns during the 2008 collegiate season. Brandon Anderson Named Assistant Baseball Coach At Temple

PHILADELPHIA - Brandon Anderson, an All-American and professional baseball player who played two seasons at Gloucester County College under current Temple head coach Rob Valli, has been named an assistant baseball coach for the Owls. Anderson is currently in his second season playing professional baseball for the Kalamazoo Kings of the Frontier League.

“Brandon has always been an extremely talented and highly motivated student of the game, so his transition from player to coach should be easy,” Valli said. “He will be an excellent coach and role model for our team.”

Rick McCarty Joins Redhawks Baseball Coaching Staff

Southeast Missouri State head baseball coach Mark Hogan announced today that Rick McCarty will join the Redhawks coaching staff as the new pitching coach in the 2008-09 season. McCarty has five years of previous coaching experience, all coming at NCAA Division II Delta State University. FULL STORY

Ever since the University of Texas finish remodeling Disch Falk Field last December it has been widely speculated that they would replace the turf with Field Turf. As of today there was a crew pulling out the old turf. With fall ball not starting until the middle of September and the summer camps are all over, this will allow the crew undivided attention on the turf.

Jordan Danks has agree to terms with the Chicago White Sox. It is being reported that he has agreed to a $500,00 signing bonus. He was able to get a 2nd round bonus after being drafted in the 7th round. Jordan will now be able to work with his older brother John.

The last day a MLB team can sign one of their draft picks is this Friday August 15th by Midnight. Jordan Danks and the Chicago White Sox are at a standstill over bonus money. (Baseball Prospectus reported that he signed a contract which was posted on this very site. The report was erroneous.) Jordan wants 2nd round money and the White Sox are hesitant to give him 2nd round money. Alan Trubow of the Austin American Statesman has written an article this evening talking with the Danks about this very subject.

The USA Olympic Team will begin play on Wednesday August 13th when they open up round robin play against South Korea. It will be the first game in the Olympics for Team USA since their Gold Medal victory over Cuba in the 2000 Olympics behind the right arm of Ben Sheets.
