PHILADELPHIA (4/8/08) – Villanova junior Joe Cotter (Bryn Mawr, PA / Pottsgrove) and La Salle freshman Kevin Fuqua (Derwood, MD / Avalon School) have been named the Philadelphia Big 5 Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, in voting conducted by the schools’ head coaches and sports information offices.

Cotter batted .563 with seven RBI to lead the Wildcats to a perfect 5-0 week, including a Big East sweep of Georgetown. Cotter added two doubles, two home runs and slugged 1.063 in five games past week. Read the rest of this entry »

The Penn Quakers were named the Big 5 Team of the Year. They finished the season with an overall record of 20-19 and lost in the Ivy League Playoffs to Brown. The Quakers also had three members of the team were honored with Todd Roth picking up three awards including Big 5 Co-Pitcher of the Year, Rookie of the Year, and All-Big 5. Joey Boaen earned Academic Big 5 honors while Penn Head Coach John Cole was named the Big 5 Coach of the Year. Full Release available here.
