(KANNAPOLIS, N.C.) – Drew Pomeranz (Ole Miss) broke the USA Baseball National Team (Collegiate) record for strikeouts in a game with 17 and pitched six solid innings to lead the National Team to a 15-1 victory at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium in the opening game of a four-game friendship series against Guatemala. I personally have been a huge fan of Mainieri since 1998 when I attended the Big East conference tournament in Norwich Connecticut. You could always tell that Mainieri was destined to become a coach at one of the major powers in the coming years and finally got the chance at LSU. Yes, he made the College World Series at Notre Dame but to be the coach at such a baseball powerhouse like LSU was too good to pass up. Read the rest of this entry »

usa-baseball-logo(DURHAM, N.C.) – Rick Hague (Rice) went 3-5 with two doubles and three RBI and Gerrit Cole (UCLA) pitched lights out for six and two-thirds innings to lead the USA Baseball National Team (Collegiate) to an 8-1 win over Team Canada at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park Friday night.

Tyler Holt (Florida State) led the game off with a stand up double and stole third base on Canadian starting pitcher and sixth round draft pick of the Philadelphia Phillies, Steven Inch. The roster is headlined by shortstop and 2008 National Team member Christian Colon (Cal State Fullerton; Capey, Puerto Rico), and consists of five outfielders, six infielders, 10 pitchers, and one utility player. (CARY, N.C.) – Christian Colon (Cal State Fullerton) went 3-4 with a solo home run and three RBI for the Blue Team in its 6-1 victory over the Red Team, Tuesday, at the USA Baseball National Team (Collegiate) Trials in Cary, N.C.

Christian Colon (Cal State Fullerton) scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the second inning when he lifted a ball over the left-field fence on White Team starter T.J. Walz (Kansas). His homer put the Blue Team ahead 1-0 early in the contest. Read the rest of this entry »

usatraditionallogo(CARY, N.C.) – Preston Tucker (Florida) hit a solo home run in the sixth inning as the Blue Team defeated the Red Team 4-2 in a seven inning intrasquad game on Saturday at the USA Baseball National Team (Collegiate) Trials.

Tony Zych (Louisville) and Tyler Holt (Florida State) hit back-to-back doubles for the Blue Team in the third inning. Rick Hague (Rice) then placed a single to left-center field that scored both Zych and Holt and put the Blue Team in front 2-0 early. Read the rest of this entry »

usa-baseball-logo(CARY, N.C.) – Casey McGrew (Wright State) drove a double down the left field line and Gerrit Cole (UCLA) stuck out eight as the Blue Team defeated the Red Team, 5-2, at the USA Baseball National Team (Collegiate) Trials, Friday, at the National Training Complex in Cary, N.C.
