CONWAY, S.C. - East Carolina senior pitcher T.J. Hose tossed a four-hit, complete game shutout to lead the Pirates to a 9-0 victory over Columbia in an NCAA Conway Regional elimination game Saturday afternoon.

CONWAY, S.C. - Top-seeded Coastal Carolina scored three runs in the top of the fifth and then added six more in the eighth as the Chanticleers powered their way to a 10-2 victory over fourth-seeded Columbia in the first game of the 2008 NCAA Baseball Conway Regional Friday, May 30 at Watson Stadium/Vrooman Field. The Coastal Carolina baseball squad will be hosting a regional for the second straight year but the difference this season is that the Chanticleers will be the playing at their real home field. They will be joined by East Carolina, Alabama, and Columbia. Coastal Carolina has a record of 47-12 while going 17-3 in the Big South. East Carolina enters with a 40-19 mark while going 13-11 in Conference USA. The Crimson Tide come in with a 34-26 record with a 16-14 record in a tough SEC conference. DANVILLE, Va. - Liberty freshman starter Stephen Evans limited No. 1 seed Coastal Carolina to three hits and the No. 2 seed Flames pounded out 13 runs and 14 hits in a 13-1 win over the Chanticleers in Game 10 of the 2008 Royal Purple Big South Conference Baseball Championship, forcing a necessary Game 11 to determine the Big South Tournament champion. DANVILLE, Va. - Flames starter Dustin Umberger tossed a complete game and struck out 10 to lead No. 2 Liberty past No. 6 Radford, 11-2 in Game 7 of the 2008 Royal Purple Big South Conference Baseball Championship, May 23 at Dan Daniel Memorial Park in Danville, Va. With the victory, Liberty improves to 33-25-1 and advances to play the loser of No. 1 Coastal Carolina-No. 4 Winthrop Friday night at 7:00pm for a chance to earn a berth in Saturday’s Championship game. DALLAS - The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) released the Pro-Line Athletic National Player of the Week awards for the period ending May 18, today. College of Charleston junior third baseman Jeremie Tice was named National Hitter of the Week, while Maryland sophomore right-hander Scott Swinson was named National Pitcher of the Week. Thought this would be a good time to do a follow up on some of the freshmen who have been contributing to their respective teams, as the regular portion of the season has concluded and conference tourneys are ready to begin.
I like to use OPS percentage as a gauge as the equation includes power factors as well as on-base frequency. I have also included the HR and Extra-base hits frequencies to show a player propensity for delivering a big hit. WACO, Texas - Baylor erased a two-run deficit with a four-run fifth, and Randall Linebaugh recorded a season-high seven strikeouts as the Bears defeated Texas State 7-2 in midweek action Tuesday night at Baylor Ballpark. The Bears (29-20) improved to 20-10 at home this season; Baylor has recorded at least 20 home wins in each of Baylor Ballpark’s 10 seasons.
