Results from first day of the first-ever NAIA sectional tournaments, officially the Baseball National Championship Opening Round, for May 12:

At Lubbock, TX:

#1 Lubbock Christian picked up where they left off in the regular season, defeating William Jewell 28-2. The Chaparrals scored seven runs in the second inning, and 18 runs in the eighth inning. William Jewell used six pitchers.

#1 Lewis-Clark State lost their opener to Concordia-Portland 5-4, and this was the first time the Cavaliers have beaten the Warriors in 42 attempts. Steven Taft got the win in relief for the Cavaliers, and C Tommy Whalen doubled in the winning run in the top of the ninth, but the key player in the win was starter Ben Rue, who went six innings, and held the Warriors to two runs on six hits.

The defending champions won their next three games. They host another tournament this weekend, with Northwest Nazarene, Saint Martin’s, and Dickinson State. They host Gonzaga on Feb. 25.

#2 Lee is now 9-0. LHP Mitch Davidson has two mercy-rule-shortened no-hitters for the Flames, and only one of their wins was close. They visit Georgetown College Feb. 20-21, and Montreat Feb. 24. Read the rest of this entry »

Defending champion and #1-ranked Lewis-Clark State opens their season hosting a tournament with College of Idaho, Concordia-Portland, Corban, and Patten Feb. 13-16.

#2 Lee started their season 5-0, including a 10-3 win over Tennessee Wesleyan. They host Virginia Intermont Feb. 13-14.

Two of the NAIA’s pre-season favorites start their seasons this weekend.

#4 Biola hosts Simpson today.They will then make a trip to Hawaii, playing Hawaii Pacific Feb. 2-3, and Hawaii-Hilo Feb. 4.

#5  Embry-Riddle opens their season in Lakeland, FL, at Southeastern, on Feb. 3.

#10 LSU-Shreveport, already 3-0 on the season, have their home opener against LSU-Alexandria Jan. 30-31, and host Southern Arkansas on Feb. 4. Read the rest of this entry »

The 53rd NAIA baseball season starts on Friday, with Belhaven at Spring Hill (Mobile, AL), La Sierra at Concordia-Irvine, LSU-Shreveport at U. of Mobile, Bethany (CA) at San Diego Christian, Wayland Baptist at Texas-Brownsville, and Patten at The Master’s (Santa Clarita, CA).
