Ryan Schlater, Bowling Green, Catcher
Sophomore, St. Paris, Ohio (St. Paris Graham)
Green catcher had his best week and weekend of the season hitting safely in all four games as the Falcons took two of three games from Akron to win the league title after having played Oakland mid-week. Adam Skonieczki, Buffalo, CF
Junior, Endicott, NY (Union-Endicott)
For the week, Skonieczki batted .455 with a pair of doubles and triples and two stolen bases. Skonieczki’s efforts at the plate and his twenty putouts in center field, helped the Bulls win their conference weekend series over #23 Kent State while tying the program mark for most wins in a season (19) since the the Bulls’ reinstatement in 2000. Derek Spencer, Bowling Green, Third Base
Junior, Oregon, Ohio (Clay)
Spencer had at least two hits and homered in every games last week as the Falcons won their series wtih Miami and went 3-1 on the week. Spencer was 3-for-5 with a two-run homer and three runs scored in non-league win over Toledo. He was 4-for-4 with two solo home runs and four runs scored in the series opener with Miami. Senior, North Lima, Ohio/South Range
Rohan had a career-high five hits and seven RBI in six at-bats and also scored a game-high four runs in the series finale against UNC Greensboro. He hit a two-run home run in the fourth and had his first career grand slam in the seventh. With the two home runs in the game, Rohan is currently tied for fifth in KSU history with 35 home runs. He finished the week with a .588 batting average, 1.059 slugging percentage, nine RBI’s, six runs and two homeruns. Read the rest of this entry »

Share Cleveland, Ohio – Defending MAC Regular Season Champion Kent State and Western Michigan have been chosen by the league’s head coaches to win their respective divisions, released today by the league office. He looked at every start from around the nation and figured out which schools treat their pitchers the best in terms of pitch counts while other schools abuse their pitchers with insane pitch counts. Share We are now just little over two months away from opening day for Division I and for some Div II teams are a little over a month away. We are continuing to get 2009 College Baseball Schedules almost daily. Today, we have Bowling Green, Bradley, Bucknell, and Sacramento State. Bowling Green State University baseball coach Danny Schmitz has announced the signing of five student-athletes to a National Letter of Intent to play for the Falcons in the 2010 season. Cody Apthorpe (Windham, Ohio), Nick Bruns (St. Henry, Ohio), Todd Kibby (New Middletown, Ohio), Patrick O’Brien (Boardman, Ohio) and Matt Pitzulo (Poland, Ohio) are the newest members of the baseball program.

FIRST-EVER ISLANDER BASEBALL ALUMNI GAME IS A WIN-WIN
While it may have been an 11-4 win for the current players on the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball team, the first-ever Islander Alumni Baseball Game held as part of the athletic department’s 10-year celebration was a win-win for both sides.
“The first-ever alumni game was a total success,” said Islander head coach Scott Malone. “We went into the game looking to bridge the gap between the Islanders of the past and the current members of the roster and I think we were able to do that. There is no doubt we intend on making the game an annual event.”

Bowling Green opens Fall Practice
Though February and the start of the college baseball season is still months away, the Bowling Green State University baseball team and head coach Danny Schmitz began the preparations for defending the Mid-American Conference Regular-Season title on Monday when they opened up fall workouts. Coach Schmitz, now entering his 19th season at the helm of the Brown and Orange, welcomed 33 players to camp, including 23 players that saw playing time in 2008, two redshirts, two walk-ons and six newcomers.

Sophomore Sheldon McDonald threw eight shutout innings of five-hit, nine-strikeout ball and did not walk a batter, as he led the Huskies to a 5-0 win over the Western Michigan Broncos on Wednesday afternoon at IMG Academies in BRadenton, Fla.
