PEORIA, Ill. – The Bradley Baseball program solidified its staff for the 2010 season by announcing former Eastern Illinois assistant coach Sean Lyons as the Braves newest addition. Lyons spent six seasons as the Panthers defense and infield coach, recruiting coordinator and also worked extensively with EIU’s hitters. In addition to his coaching experience, Lyons played for the Panthers from 1996-99.

ST. LOUIS – Missouri State, which returns a dominating veteran pitching staff and solid depth from last year’s Missouri Valley Conference runner-up squad, has been tabbed as the league favorite in the annual coaches’ preseason poll, receiving eight of nine first place votes.
The Bears tallied 80 points and were a sound favorite over second-place pick Creighton (66 points). 2008 champion Wichita State, who secured the remaining first-place vote and 63 points overall, was picked to finish in the third position. Read the rest of this entry »

Share We are now just little over two months away from opening day for Division I and for some Div II teams are a little over a month away. We are continuing to get 2009 College Baseball Schedules almost daily. Today, we have Bowling Green, Bradley, Bucknell, and Sacramento State. Share Head Coach Elvis Dominguez- Bradley Braves

PEORIA, Ill. — Having to replenish a current roster that features 10 seniors, first-year Bradley Baseball head coach Elvis Dominguez and his staff hit the recruiting trail hard and have landed a 14-player class that will take the diamond for the Braves during the 2010 season. Dominguez announced his first Bradley recruiting class Thursday and the group consists of one catcher, two infielders, three outfielders, six pitchers and two current shortstops targeted to play both in the infield and outfield, and the large class will head to Peoria from seven different states.

FIRST-EVER ISLANDER BASEBALL ALUMNI GAME IS A WIN-WIN
While it may have been an 11-4 win for the current players on the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball team, the first-ever Islander Alumni Baseball Game held as part of the athletic department’s 10-year celebration was a win-win for both sides.
“The first-ever alumni game was a total success,” said Islander head coach Scott Malone. “We went into the game looking to bridge the gap between the Islanders of the past and the current members of the roster and I think we were able to do that. There is no doubt we intend on making the game an annual event.”

PEORIA, Ill. — Elvis Dominguez, who has served as the head coach at Eastern Kentucky University for the last seven years and has connections to the Missouri Valley Conference that go back more than 25 years, has been named the 15th head coach in Bradley Baseball history. Dominguez, who replaces the retiring Dewey Kalmer, was introduced during a press conference Tuesday morning at O’Brien Field.
“First of all, we are extremely appreciative of the tremendous run and numerous contributions that Coach Kalmer has made during his nearly three decades at the helm of the Bradley Baseball program and now wish Dewey and Carol a wonderful retirement,” said Bradley Director of Athletics Ken Kavanagh. “We welcome Elvis and his family to Bradley Athletics and hope that they have a similar long run on the Hilltop.”

WICHITA, Kan. — Bradley Baseball head coach Dewey Kalmer, the winningest coach in Bradley Athletics history, announced his plans for retirement during a postgame press conference after his team’s elimination from the 2008 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Tournament Wednesday night at Eck Stadium.
Kalmer’s 29th season at Bradley and his 40th year overall as a head coach ended when the Braves (26-28) dropped a pair of games during Wednesday’s opening day, 14-2 to Creighton in Game 2 and 9-2 to Northern Iowa in Game 3 Wednesday night.
“It’s a great time for me to leave,” Kalmer said during the postgame press conference. “The timing is good for Bradley because I think they should be very competitive next year. The new coach will walk into a team that can compete.” Read the rest of this entry »
