Share The Cape Cod Baseball League has put out their 2009 All-Cape League team. It is led by CCBL MVP Kyle Roller from East Carolina and CCBL Top Pitcher Chris Sale from Florida Gulf Coast. The infield features first baseman Mickey Wiswall (Boston College), second baseman Pierre LePage (Uconn), shortstop B.A. Vollmuth (Southern Miss) and third baseman Jedd Gyorko (West Virginia). The two ultility infielders are Zach Cox (Arkansas) and Nick Crawford (UAB). The outfield is led by Todd Cunningham (Jacksonville State). The other four members of the All-League outfield are Gary Brown (CS-Fullerton), Austin Wates (Virginia Tech), Brian Fletcher (Auburn), and George Springer (UConn). The catchers are Mike Murray (Wake Forest) and Cody Stanley (UNC-Wilmington). Ryan Cuneo (Delaware) joins Roller as the All-League Designated Hitters.

HARRISONBURG, Va., Aug. 3, 2009 – James Madison head coach Spanky McFarland has announced the addition of three players, catcher Billy Logan, outfielder Cole McInturff, and pitcher Nick Slogik, who will join the Dukes as freshmen for the 2010 season.

UNCW Summer Baseball Update – July 24
Cody Stanley (Cotuit) – Stanley represented UNCW and Cotuit at the Cape Cod All-Star game on July 23 and finished the rain-shortened contest 0-2 and caught the first four innings of the game. Stanley knocked in the second run of the game for the West team with a ground out. He’s hitting .296 with 13 runs scored in the pitching dominated summer league.

Share I took the day off from work to take in the Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star Game on Thursday night. The game was played at Fenway Park for the first time since the late 1980’s as the players got their chance to play at one of the better MLB parks in the country.
The game started early as the weather forecast called for heavy rains later in the night.

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNC Wilmington head baseball coach Mark Scalf has announced the addition of former Seahawk standout Daniel Hargrave to his coaching staff for the 2009-10 season.
“We’re excited to have Daniel back in the program as an assistant coach,” said Scalf. “He was a very good player for us and played the game the right way. His experience will be a valuable asset to the younger players in the program.”

Coming off the most successful season in school history, the Georgia State baseball team has added seven student-athletes who signed a National Letter of Intent during the spring signing period as announced by head coach Greg Frady on Tuesday morning.

Share The Boston Globe recently checked in on former New England high school baseball players progess during this past college season. They highlight Clemson’s Scott Weismann who enjoyed a successful freshman season which saw him appear in 17 games out of the bullpen while accumulating a 1.23 ERA and holding opponents to a batting average against of .206. Bourne defeated Yarmouth-Dennis 7-5 behind Nick Schwaner (New Orleans) who went 2-5 including three RBI. He hit a three run homer in the third inning which tied up the game at the time. Box Score

WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Colonial Athletic Association has awarded its 2010 and 2011 baseball championships to UNC Wilmington, extending the school’s run of hosting the event to eight consecutive seasons and 10 times overall.
