Kaohi Downing - Point Loma Nazarene

#1 Oklahoma City swept a three-game series against Rogers State, and defeated Calumet. The Stars are now 22-1, but they get their first serious challenge of the season with a series at #17 Wayland Baptist March 15-16.

#2 Lee swept Emmanuel, but trailed Trevecca Nazarene 8-6 after 6 1/2 innings. The Flames closed to 8-7 in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI single by Junior Rodriguez. The winning run came in the bottom of the eighth on an RBI single by Julian Alvarez. The Flames then lost their second game of the season while splitting a double-header with Milligan (Johnson City, TN). The loss was 2-1, and the winning run was scored when Spencer Street was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

The Flames are now 23-2. They visit Faulkner March 13-14, and Trevecca Nazarene March 17. Read the rest of this entry »

#1 Oklahoma City lost their first game of the Season on March 2, but it took 13 innings to do it. The loss was 4-3 to Iowa Wesleyan, who is 9-6. Starter Jorge Martinez pitched ten innings for Iowa Wesleyan, allowed 13 hits, but only three runs. Hector Acevedo held the Stars to two hits over the remaining three innings. Edwin Jimenez hit a sacrifice fly to bring in the winning run.

The Stars are now 18-1. They play a Rogers State team that is 10-6 away-and-home March 5 and 7.

#2 Lee is 18-1, but they trailed going into the bottom of the ninth at Tennessee Temple on March 3. The Flames ended up winning 10-6 in ten innings. Elvis Sosa is hitting .508 with eight home runs for the Flames. Matthew Gilson is 3-0, 0.46 ERA. Next up for the Flames is Emmanuel March 6-7. They get a stiffer test against Trevecca Nazarene on March 10. Read the rest of this entry »

Defending champion and #1-ranked Lewis-Clark State opens their season hosting a tournament with College of Idaho, Concordia-Portland, Corban, and Patten Feb. 13-16.

#2 Lee started their season 5-0, including a 10-3 win over Tennessee Wesleyan. They host Virginia Intermont Feb. 13-14.

Two of the NAIA’s pre-season favorites start their seasons this weekend.

#4 Biola hosts Simpson today.They will then make a trip to Hawaii, playing Hawaii Pacific Feb. 2-3, and Hawaii-Hilo Feb. 4.

#5  Embry-Riddle opens their season in Lakeland, FL, at Southeastern, on Feb. 3.

#10 LSU-Shreveport, already 3-0 on the season, have their home opener against LSU-Alexandria Jan. 30-31, and host Southern Arkansas on Feb. 4. Read the rest of this entry »

Summary of results for the top NAIA baseball teams:

Lubbock Christian defeated Hardin-Simmons onTuesday, running their record to 10-1. The scheduled series with Division I Houston Baptist was cancelled due to weather. The Chaparrals host Cumberland for four games this weekend.

Oklahoma City swept three games with Oklahoma Christian, and their record is now 9-0. They play Rogers State this week.

Justin Marsh-QuinlanLewis-Clark State won three of four in a tournament they hosted. They defeated College of Idaho 8-3, Whitworth 7-0, Mayville State 6-4, the lost to College of Idaho 3-2 (10 innings). The victory over Whitworth avenged a loss a week earlier, and Michael Guerrero, Brian Bird, and Matt Stabelfeld combined for the shutout, striking out 13. The College of Idaho got their first win over their in-state rival since 2005 without getting an earned run. In the top of the tenth, Perry Hamilton hit a fly ball that was dropped by Warrior outfielder Chris Valencia. Hamilton went to third on a hit by Luke Howarth, then scored when the Warriors failed to complete a double play on a slow roller hit by pinch-hitter Jordan Lanman. Justin Marsh-Quinlan, who was stellar in relief, struck out two in the bottom of the tenth to preserve his first win as a Coyote. Marsh-Quinlan is a transfer from Olympic CC.

Summary of results for the top NAIA baseball teams:

Lubbock Christian won three of four at Texas Wesleyan, and they are 9-1. They play four games against new-to-Division-I Houston Baptist Feb. 15-16.

Oklahoma City swept a double-header at Bacone on Saturday, and defeated Dakota Wesleyan on Sunday. The Stars are 6-0, and they play Oklahoma Christian and Lindenwood next week.

Chad FlettLewis-Clark State defeated College of Idaho (formerly Albertson) twice, 10-0 and 4-3. They split with Division III Whitworth, losing 6-5, and winning 10-2. Whitworth’s win was their first over L-C State since 1999, and Chad Flett got the win for the Pirates. The Warriors host a tournament next weekend with Mayville State, College of Idaho, and Whitworth.

Bellevue did not play last week. They are 0-4 after being swept by Cal Baptist Jan. 31-Feb. 2. They play at Sterling next weekend. Read the rest of this entry »

It’s difficult to handicap NAIA baseball before games have actually been played on the field, because the top NAIA teams rely heavily on JUCO transfers.
