LandryHeadshot The CBB continues our countdown for the 2010 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the list today with number 91 in our countdown with LSU junior outfielder Leon Landry. He is 5’11 and 197 pounds out of Baton Rouge, LA and Baker High School. He was a three sport athlete in high school playing basketball, football, and baseball. He excelled in baseball as he was named first team all-district in three consecutive seasons as a pitcher and infielder. Perfect Game rated him as one of the top players in the Southeast region which saw him get selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the 36th round. He declined to sign with the Reds and headed to LSU.

BaseballAmerica DURHAM, N.C.–Mississippi and Washington State lead all schools by placing five players apiece on Baseball America’s top prospects lists for 18 different summer college leagues and Team USA. Last summer, Louisiana State and Texas each led the nation with five players apiece on BA’s summer league lists, and those two teams wound up facing off for the national championship at the College World Series.

BA ranked the top 30 prospects for the talent-rich Cape Cod League, and the top 10 prospects in 17 other summer college leagues. In addition, the top 20 Team USA prospects were ranked.

The Mid-Atlantic Classic will feature All-Stars from the Cal Ripken, Sr. League taking on their counterparts from the Valley Baseball League in a rare inter-league summer college baseball match-up.

The 2008 Cal Ripken, Sr. League Championship Series got underway with a bang on Tuesday. Mike Lang’s (Rutgers) walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth carried the #6 Silver Spring-Takoma Thunderbolts over the #7 Rockville Express, 9-8, and into the evening’s game against the #3 College Park Bombers (in progress). Meanwhile, the #8 Maryland Redbirds went into enemy territory and defeated the host #5 Alexandria Aces, 11-4. The Redbirds then capped off their day of upsets by knocking off the #4 Herndon Braves, 7-3.

The ‘A’, representing the city of Alexandria, Virginia, will be worn on the team’s home pinstripe uniforms, ball caps, as well as batting practice tee shirts and shorts. ‘ALEXANDRIA’ will be worn on Aces road gray uniforms. The Aces team colors are midnight blue, gray/silver and white.

The Alexandria Aces Collegiate Summer Baseball Club, the eighth and newest member of the Cal Ripken, Sr. Collegiate Baseball League, is proud to kick off its newest theme to attract top quality ball players to play for the team next summer.

“We are building an outstanding baseball organization, something the city of Alexandria and local fans can be very proud of,” said Aces chairman and CEO, Don Dinan. “Part of our process in building the Aces is promoting the idea that Alexandria is the perfect place for collegiate ball players to play wooden bat baseball here next summer and for many years to come,” Dinan added. “The players that we will recruit to play for the Aces all have exceptional baseball talent and want to show their skills to major league scouts. They want to be drafted. Our ball club will provide them a fantastic opportunity to be in the spotlight. We want those players to know that the road to Major League Baseball runs through Alexandria.”
