DanielRenken The CBB continues our countdown for the 2010 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the list today with number 74 in our countdown with Cal-State Fullerton junior RHP Daniel Renken. He is a 6’4 195 pound righty out of Orange Lutheran High School and from Cypress California. He was a three year letter winner for head coach Mike Grahovac with a career record of 17-7 including an impressive senior season where he went 8-3 with a 1.95 ERA as he was named All-Orange County. The Colorado Rockies selected him in the 35th round in 2007 but were unable to come to terms with him.

Brown_09_025 Daily Titan staff writer Juan Saucedo recently wrote an outstanding article previewing the Cal-State Fullerton Titan baseball program heading into fall practice. They are expected to be one of the top teams in the country in 2010 behind Christian Colon and a strong pitching staff led by Noe Ramirez.

BigWest Kendall Rogers of Rivals continues his previews of conferences around the country today with the Big West. He believes that the Big West has nothing to worry about this year as they are deeper then usual as Cal-State Fullerton and UC-Irvine are contenders for a CWS bid.

11-10-03 Road to Omaha The College Baseball Blog staff recently got together to start discussing the 2010 season. We have each put out our 2010 picks for the College World Series. The most popular selection is Texas showing up on all six ballots with LSU, Cal-State Fullerton, and Virginia showing up on five of them. BryceHarper Baseball America recently put out their Top 25 College Baseball and High School Prospects for the 2010 MLB Draft. The college rankings are led by Bryce Harper who has received national attention for skipping his final two years of high school to play college baseball with Community College of Southern Nevada. The rest of the top five is Anthony Ranaudo from LSU, Deck McGuire from Ga Tech, Levon Washington from Chipola JC, and Chris Sale from Florida Gulf Coast. The rest of the top 25 is available below.

FullertonSchedulePic Fullerton, Calif. – The Cal State Fullerton baseball program unveiled their 2010 schedule Thursday morning, setting the field for the Titans’ 36th Div. I season.

• The Titans will welcome home former Head Coach George Horton, as he makes his return to Goodwin Field as the skipper of the Oregon Ducks. The Titans and Ducks will open the 2010 season on Feb. 19.

• The 56-games schedule will include 25 games versus Big West opponents, 11 games apiece against Pac-10 and West Coast Conference teams, eight games against clubs from the Mountain West Conference and a lone game with Conference USA.

The Cape Cod Baseball League has put out their 2009 All-Cape League team. It is led by CCBL MVP Kyle Roller from East Carolina and CCBL Top Pitcher Chris Sale from Florida Gulf Coast. The infield features first baseman Mickey Wiswall (Boston College), second baseman Pierre LePage (Uconn), shortstop B.A. Vollmuth (Southern Miss) and third baseman Jedd Gyorko (West Virginia). The two ultility infielders are Zach Cox (Arkansas) and Nick Crawford (UAB). The outfield is led by Todd Cunningham (Jacksonville State). The other four members of the All-League outfield are Gary Brown (CS-Fullerton), Austin Wates (Virginia Tech), Brian Fletcher (Auburn), and George Springer (UConn). The catchers are Mike Murray (Wake Forest) and Cody Stanley (UNC-Wilmington). Ryan Cuneo (Delaware) joins Roller as the All-League Designated Hitters.

ChristianColon Cal-State Fullerton and current member of the United States Collegiate National Team was injured in the eighth inning on Friday night when Canadian Nic Lendvoy slid hard into second base to break up a double play. Both benches ended up clearing on the play but order was quickly restored. Colon was carried off the field as his current condition is unknown. This could be an injury which could affect Colon during Fall Ball but he has about six months to get ready for the regular season.

GerrittCole (PRINCE GEORGE, British Columbia) – Andy Wilkins hit an RBI triple in second inning and Gerrit Cole (UCLA) pitched a complete game two-hitter as Team USA beat Canada, 1-0, at the 2009 Enbridge Northern Gateway Pipeline World Baseball Challenge at Prince George Citizen Field.

Yasmani Grandal (Miami) hit a single to right field with two outs and Wilkins followed with an RBI triple off of the scoreboard in left center to put the U.S. (18-5; 5-1) up 1-0 in the bottom of the second inning.

I took the day off from work to take in the Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star Game on Thursday night. The game was played at Fenway Park for the first time since the late 1980’s as the players got their chance to play at one of the better MLB parks in the country.

The game started early as the weather forecast called for heavy rains later in the night.

SonnyGray(Vandy) PRINCE GEORGE, British Columbia — Rick Hague (Rice) went 3-4 with one of three U.S. home runs and Team USA defeated the host Prince George Axemen, 10-2, at the 2009 Enbridge Northern Gateway Pipeline World Baseball Challenge at Prince George Citizen Field.

The Axemen (2-2) got on the board in the bottom of the first inning with a double to right center by Darrin Doucette to take a short-lived one-run lead.
