PAYRKXSKPHXKFZA.20090221213420 BUIES CREEK, N.C. — As the fall practice schedule gets underway at Taylor Field the Campbell baseball program welcomes 16 newcomers including seven that have come to the team as a result of the summer recruiting period.  These seven new Fighting Camels are expected to make an immediate impact in the Campbell lineup this season.

Four junior college transfers highlight the summer recruiting for the Fighting Camels including two pitchers who helped their squads reach the postseason, including one who made an appearance in the Junior College World Series.

The Campbell Camels will be moving to the Big South conference according to a report in The Fayetteville Observer. Campbell was a charter member of the Big South back in 1983 but left in 1994 for the Trans America Athletic Conference which later became the Atlantic Sun Conference. The school will be a member of the Atlantic Sun through the 2010-2011 school year before making the transition to the Big South for the 2011-2012 season. Read the rest of this entry »

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State (32-12, 17-7 ACC) broke open a one-run ball game with four home runs in the fourth and fifth innings combined to take down Virginia Tech (27-19, 10-15 ACC) 10-4 Saturday evening on Mike Martin Field inside Dick Howser Stadium. We enter the final stretch of ACC play as many teams are taking the weekend off for finals or playing out of conference series so we only see Virginia Tech heading to Florida State and Boston College hosting Miami (FL) for the Friday-Sunday series. MACON, Ga. – In each of its first three years in the Atlantic Sun, Kennesaw State has improved its standing and on the heels of its runner-up finish in 2008, the A-Sun coaches have installed the Owls as the preseason favorite, the conference office announced on Thursday.

Led by the Preseason Pitcher of the Year, Kyle Heckathorn, the Owls received six of the 11 first-place votes outdistancing themselves from a bunched pack of Lipscomb, the 2008 conference champion, FGCU, the 2008 regular-season champion and Stetson. Mississippi State has reached into Alabama, Georgia and Texas for its latest signees of the 2008-09 college baseball recruiting campaign.

Joining the initial Bulldog recruiting class of first-year MSU skipper John Cohen are left-handed pitcher Matt Lane of Marietta, Ga. (Pope High School), outfielder Jaron Shepherd of Kilgore, Texas (Kilgore High School/Navarro College) and shortstop Nick Vickerson of Tuscaloosa, Ala. (Hillcrest High School/Florida State/Shelton State).

Brandon Anderson Named Assistant Baseball Coach At Temple

PHILADELPHIA – Brandon Anderson, an All-American and professional baseball player who played two seasons at Gloucester County College under current Temple head coach Rob Valli, has been named an assistant baseball coach for the Owls. Anderson is currently in his second season playing professional baseball for the Kalamazoo Kings of the Frontier League.

“Brandon has always been an extremely talented and highly motivated student of the game, so his transition from player to coach should be easy,” Valli said. “He will be an excellent coach and role model for our team.”
