KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Lubbock Christian (TX) University, 2009 national champions, has landed two players on the 2010 NAIA Baseball Preseason All-America Team, the NAIA announced Friday. Three other schools list two players apiece among the honorees, including Lewis-Clark State (ID), LSU-Shreveport and Saint Xavier (IL).

All 2010 Preseason All-Americans garnered postseason 2009 All-America honors. Ross Blondin of Lubbock Christian, Andrew Brouillette of LSU-Shreveport, Brice Cutspec of Azusa Pacific (CA), Tim Dunn of Trevecca Nazarene (TN), Jayson Koehn of Saint Xavier, Jono Waugh of Southern Polytechnic State (GA) and Justin Zinkovich of Embry-Riddle (FL) were all mentioned on the 2009 All-America First Team. Three other standouts were named to the All-America Second Team while seven players were All-America Honorable Mention picks.

wmbl The Okotoks Dawgs swept their series against the Moose Jaw Miller Express, 2-1, 10-5, and 5-4. Jeff Duda (Campbellsville) pitched a four-hit complete game in the first game, struck out 11. The Dawgs trailed 1-0 going into the seventh inning, but they tied it in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Mac Sullivan (USC), and won it on the eighth on an RBI double by Jeremy Shelby (Grambling State). In the third game, Manny Kumar (Grambling State) scored the winning run on a passed ball. The Dawgs will play the Medicine Hat Mavericks in the semifinal playoff round; the series starts Thursday, August 6 at Okotoks.

Western Major Baseball LeagueThe regular season for the WMBL is over, and the playoffs start on Friday, July 31. The Okotoks Dawgs won the West Division pennant with a 32-13 record, and they will host the Moose Jaw Miller Express in the first playoff round. The Swift Current Indians won the Central Division pennant with a 27-13 record, and they will host Yorkton Cardinals in the first round. The Melville Millionaires won the East Division with a 26-14 record, and will host the Regina Red Sox. The other first-round playoff matchup is Medicine Hat Mavericks at Lethbridge Bulls. Western Major Baseball LeagueThe Okotoks Dawgs won five of six over the past week, running their record to 27-11. They now lead the West Division by 6.5 games. They also continue to draw good crowds; 2,063 for a 5-3 win over the Medicine Hat Mavericks (Jake Bottari [College of Idaho] got the win) and 2,352 for an 11-10 win over the Lethbridge Bulls. Jeff Duda (Campbellsville) got a 7-0 shutout at the Edmonton Prospects, and leads the team in W-L (6-1), ERA (2.29). He leads the league in strikeouts (80), and has issued only nine walks in 70 2/3 innings pitched. Duda pitched the first eight innings of a 12-inning 3-2 win at Medicine Hat; Mac Sullivan (USC) hit a home run to win it, and Lee Ingram (Thompson Rivers) got the win. Manny Kumar (Grambling State) singled in the winning run in a 12-inning 3-2 win at Lethbridge. Anthony Cros (Northwest Oklahoma State) continues to lead the Dawgs in hitting, with an average of .398. Western Major Baseball LeagueThe Okotoks Dawgs continue to lead the West Division with a 22-10 record. The Dawgs lost road games to the Regina Red Sox and the Medicine Hat Mavericks, then won two home games against the Moose Jaw Miller Express, 14-3 and 6-4. The games against Moose Jaw drew crowds of 1,864 and 1,793. In the 6-4 win, the Dawgs scored five runs in the second inning on an RBI double by C Brett Thomas (California), a two-RBI single by 2B Matt Hart (Santa Ana College), an RBI single by RF Anthony Cros (Northwest Oklahoma State), and a sacrifice fly by CF Jeremy Shelby (Grambling State). Cros’ RBI was the winning run, and Marc Wilson (Campbellsville) got the win, his first of the season. Cros leads the team with a .405 batting average, and a .553 on-base percentage. Dan Britton-Foster (British Columbia) is the leading pitcher for the Dawgs, with a record of 3-0, 1.12 ERA. Read the rest of this entry »

Bryan Fuller is the RHP for Campbellsville who pitched 21 scoreless innings during the NAIA sectional tournament at Saint Charles, MO. CBB met up with him at the NAIA Baseball National Championship in Lewiston, ID:

Bob Broughton: Your scoreless inning streak ended Saturday morning against Southern Polytechnic, but you kept Campbellsville in the game.

Bryan Fuller: The Hornets poked the ball through with some timely hits. I threw 73 pitches, and the game was tied 3-3 when I left the game after five innings. I was relieved by Eric Mattos, who is normally our number two starter. He had some control problems, gave up a couple of runs [one of them unearned] and left the game with us trailing 5-3. Results from first day of the first-ever NAIA sectional tournaments, officially the Baseball National Championship Opening Round, for May 12:

At Lubbock, TX:

#1 Lubbock Christian picked up where they left off in the regular season, defeating William Jewell 28-2. The Chaparrals scored seven runs in the second inning, and 18 runs in the eighth inning. William Jewell used six pitchers.
