The CBB was on The World Ford Sports Show in Pensacola Florida on Saturday. I talked about all the Regionals especially focusing on the Super Regionals involving ACC/SEC teams. The interview is about 20 minutes long and is very interesting as I talked about my expectations for the weekend which have not come true but that is why we make predications. On Monday, I was approached by one of the producers of The Loose Cannons which is one of the top radio shows in the Los Angeles market. The show airs on 570 AM from 12pm-4pm Pacific time and features co-hosts Mychal Thompson who played for the Los Angeles Lakers among other teams, Steve Hartman who is one of the top sportscasters in LA and Vic “The Brick” Jacobs who is known for his crazy antics. I was on the show discussing the final games of the College Baseball Regionals and previewing the upcoming Super Regionals. The full interview is available by clicking here.

Specifically, Scott is the Manager of Championship Sports for men’s soccer, Division II men’s basketball, wrestling, and baseball.
The main topic was the NAIA’s “direct qualification” scheme which goes into effect for the 2009 season. The NAIA announced a few months ago that the field for the Baseball National Championship would consist of the host team and the winners of nine double-elimination “sectional” tournaments. The College Baseball Blog recently had a chance to ask Sawyer Carroll who is the top hitter on the Kentucky Wildcat baseball team and among the best players in the SEC. The Wildcats are currently 21-2 overall with a conference mark of 4-2 in the tough SEC. Carroll is leading the team in many offensive categories including a .481 average, seven homers, and 33 RBI. Carroll was an 18th round pick in the 2007 MLB Draft by the Washington Nationals but decided to return for his senior season which has been a great decision based on the numbers he has put up during the early portion of the season. Host David Miller of “Think Out Loud” a radio show on Oregon Public Radio recently contacted us about being a guest on his recent show about the upcoming baseball season. They discuss what people in Oregon do without having a professional team to follow like many people around the nation. Oregon does have one of the best baseball programs in the nation with Oregon State and University of Oregon will be adding the program starting next school year. The College Baseball Blog continues our series of interviews with head coaches with Notre Dame Head Coach Dave Schrage who is entering his second season in charge of the Irish program. Last year, his squad finished with an overall record of 28-28 and 11-14 in the Big East. The College Baseball Blog continues our series of interviews with head coaches checking in with Northeastern Head Coach Neil McPhee who is entering his 23rd season in charge of the team. Last year, his squad finished with an overall record of 24-22 and 12-17 in the CAA which was good enough for eighth place but did not qualify for the CAA tournament. The College Baseball Blog continues our series of interviews with head coaches checking in with St. Edward’s coach Rob Penders. He is entering his second season in charge of the Hilltoppers program after coming over from the University of Texas where he severed as the first base coach for Augie Garrido. Coach Penders come from a long line of family members who are coaches themselves. Rob’s brother Jim is the head baseball coach at Connecticut and his uncle is the head basketball coach at the University of Houston.
1) The St Edawrds Hilltoppers had a 43-15 overall record and went 31-9 in the Heartland Conference. Patrick Colgan (12-0, 1.97 ERA) is the only returning starting pitcher as you lost Niel Smith (7-3, 3.95 ERA) and Casey Plant(8-4, 4.31 ERA) but return closer David Wagner to the squad. The College Baseball Blog continues our series of interviews with head coaches with Mik Aoki of Boston College. He is entering his second season as the head coach of the BC program. He led them to a 24-27-1 record including a conference mark of 12-17 which was only 1.5 games out of eighth place. The College Baseball Blog recently had a chance to send some questions to Gary Gilmore of Coastal Carolina. Gary is entering his 13th season in charge of the Chanticleer program after a very strong 2007 season in which they went 50-13 and hosted the school’s first regional.
