Boyles in New Facility, Southland Conference Rendering of the new stadium-UCA FROM CBB NEWS SOURCE Though the completed baseball stadium is still months away, UCA fans can now take a glimpse into the future with the latest architectural renderings of the project, which were just released by the firm of Wittenberg, Delony & Davidson, Inc. “You can see we’re getting top-notch quality,” said UCA athletic director Brad Teague. “These renderings give us a great look at what the completed facility will look like. The 2008 Capital One/Southland Conference All-Academic Baseball Teams were released today by the league office as Texas State sophomore first baseman Paul Goldschmidt was voted Student-Athlete of the year. A native of The Woodlands, Texas, Goldschmidt’s accomplishments off the field are as stellar as his achievements in the classroom. While maintaining a 3.82 grade point average in finance, Goldschmidt led the league in home runs (17), garnering the 2008 SLC Hitter of the Year award, falling one round tripper shy of tying Texas State’s single-season record. Lamar did exactly what it needed to do on Saturday in preparation for the upcoming Southland Conference Tournament. Head coach Jim Gilligan used six pitchers and got enough out of them while producing enough offense for a 2-1 win over McNeese State for a series sweep and a three-game winning streak heading into Wednesday’s tourney-opener. IRVING, Texas — The Big 12 Conference has named 62 student-athletes to the 2008 Academic All-Big 12 Baseball Team, the league office announced. Nebraska led the conference with nine selections — seven on the first team and two on the second. Individually, Brett Scott ( Kansas State ) received special recognition for posting a 4.00 grade point average. Nominated by each institution’s director of student-athlete support services and the media relations offices, the baseball academic all-league team consisted of 46 first team members combined with 16 on the second team. First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and the second team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.
