THIBODAUX, La. – The Colonel baseball team evened its series with Central Arkansas Friday night, claiming a 6-4 victory over the Bears at Ray E. Didier Field.

“I’m very proud of our guys and the way we responded today after last night’s loss. This team is capable of playing like this every night. We swung the bats, played defense well and went out and threw strikes.”

Southeastern Louisiana and Texas State are tied atop of the Southland Conference standings, but the tie will be broken this weekend in San Marcos, Texas, when the two meet. All six conference series will be played Thursday through Saturday to give the teams a day off on Easter. Lamar has won five in a row to move into a tie for third with Sam Houston State and UT Arlington. The Cardinals and Bearkats meet Saturday in Huntsville, while the Mavericks play host to McNeese State. Other weekend matchups pit Stephen F. Austin at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Northwestern State at UTSA and Central Arkansas at Nicholls State.

Northwestern State 10 Nicholls State 8

NATCHITOCHES – A six-run eighth inning, highlighted by back-to-back RBI pinch hit singles from Collin Bear and Eric DeBlanc, rallied Northwestern State from an 8-4 deficit to a 10-8 Southland Conference baseball win over Nicholls State Sunday afternoon at Brown-Stroud Field.

The win gave the Demons the series victory as they improved to 14-13 overall and 8-6 in conference play – just 1-1/2 games out of first place. Nicholls fell to 12-17 on the season and 6-9 in the league.

NATCHITOCHES, La. – Nicholls score four insurance runs in the sixth that proved necessary as the Demons scored six in the seventh, but the Colonels held on to even the series with a 9-6 win Saturday afternoon.

The Colonels (12-16, 6-8 SLC) got on the board in the first on an RBI single from first baseman Zach Tisdale (Petal, Miss./Pearl River CC), adding a run in each the second, third and fifth innings for a 4-0 lead.

In other league action, Nicholls State is at Northwestern State, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi is at Lamar, UTSA is at Stephen F. Austin and Sam Houston State visits McNeese State.

McNeese State 12 Central Arkansas 11

Jace Peterson singled in the winning run from third in the bottom of the 11th inning for a 12-11 McNeese State victory over Central Arkansas here Sunday afternoon.

The Cowboys had held the lead throughout the game and had gone into the eighth inning with a 11-5 edge. In that frame, however, the Bears’ Richey Irvin belted the first pitch from Cowboy reliefer Tommy Luce over the right field wall for a grand slam.

McNeese won the first game 10-5 with the use of three home runs while Central Arkansas took the second, slamming out 17 hits.

McNeese State 17 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 7

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – McNeese State tied a season high by collecting 21 hits in a 17-7 eight inning Southland Conference victory over TAM-Corpus Christi on Sunday.

The victory was the second in three games by the Cowboys over the Islanders. They go to 11-10 overall and to 3-6 in league play while the Islanders are now 7-16 and 1-8.
