This is a first in a series of reports I will file leading into the 2009 college baseball season. I decided to start with some of the top power producers who had great 2008 seasons that didn’t get much press except from their local media and schools.
My selections for this report, and upcoming reports, include players who are far from one dimensional. These particular bombers all were in the top 20 of their respective conferences in batting average. So let’s get started with Home Run Frequency. Brandon Anderson Named Assistant Baseball Coach At Temple
PHILADELPHIA - Brandon Anderson, an All-American and professional baseball player who played two seasons at Gloucester County College under current Temple head coach Rob Valli, has been named an assistant baseball coach for the Owls. Anderson is currently in his second season playing professional baseball for the Kalamazoo Kings of the Frontier League.
“Brandon has always been an extremely talented and highly motivated student of the game, so his transition from player to coach should be easy,” Valli said. “He will be an excellent coach and role model for our team.”

Due to a mixup by the Boston Red Sox, the ACC Baseball tourney has been removed from Fenway Park after a scheduling mixup between the Boston Red Sox and the Fenway Sports Group. The reason behind this is the fact that the Boston Red Sox gave the wrong dates to Major League Baseball and have scheduled games for that weekend. Read the rest of this entry »

Baseball Program Holds 11th Annual Bullpen Golf Outing. Event raised nearly $40,000 for the baseball program.
QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John’s baseball program hosted its 11th annual Bullpen Golf Outing at Pelham Country Club in Pelham Manor, N.Y., on July 28. The event, with title sponsor Chartwells, raised over $40,000 to benefit the Red Storm baseball program.

I was recently emailed by the staff of The Wizard of Odds about Clemson’s head coach Jack Leggett’s home being involved in a fire over the weekend. According to Clemson beat writer Paul Strelow, 50 percent of the home was destroyed in the fire and is currently being investigated by the State Law Enforcement Division. ACC Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year Buster Posey of Florida State leads the 2008 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Team.
GREENSBORO, N.C. –ACC Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year Buster Posey of Florida State leads the 2008 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Team as announced today by Commissioner John D. Swofford.
Posey, a junior Business Finance major, is a three-time ACC All-Academic team selection and the recipient of the 2008 Academic All-American of the Year, presented by CoSIDA in conjunction with ESPN the Magazine. Posey is a member of the ACC Academic Honor Roll, a five-time Dean’s List Student and was named to the Florida State President’s List during the spring of his sophomore year.

Clemson hit three home runs, including a seventh-inning grand slam by Ben Paulsen, to defeat #24 Georgia Tech 10-4 on Saturday in the ACC Tournament at The Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - The second of Dave DiNatale’s two homers lifted top-seeded Miami to a 15-12 victory over Georgia Tech on Thursday night in the 2008 Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Championship at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.
DiNatale’s ninth homer of the year, with two runners on, erased a 12-11 lead Georgia Tech had taken into the top of the ninth. Jemile Weeks added an insurance run with an RBI single later in the inning. Read the rest of this entry »
