All Things Valley League has put together a Top 15 of the best hitters in the league during the 2008 season. The list is led by Florida International’s Tyler Townsend who had an outstanding summer with Winchester. He finished the season with a .387 average with 12 homers and 36 RBI in only 42 games. He also stole 14 bases in 17 attempts. Brandon Sizemore of College of Charleston comes in the runners up spot. He had a .377 average with 10 homers and 34 RBI. The rest of the top 5 is filled out by Marcus Nidfiffer (Kentucky), Drew Johnson (San Francisco), and Mickey Wiswall (Boston College). CHARLESTON, S.C. — Nine games against NCAA Regional participants from last season and 27 home games highlight the 2009 College of Charleston baseball schedule.

(Charleston) – Former College of Charleston standout and South Carolina assistant coach Monte Lee has been named the Cougars’ head baseball coach, Charleston’s director of athletics Joe Hull announced Thursday at an 11:00 a.m. press conference at Randolph Hall on the school’s campus. Lee replaces John Pawlowski who was named head coach at Auburn on June 20, 2008.

Lee, 31, joins the Cougars after spending the past six seasons as an assistant at South Carolina under head coach Ray Tanner. He served as the Gamecocks’ recruiting coordinator last season. Lee also worked with the outfielders and hitters during his tenure.

AUBURN, Ala. – Auburn Athletics Director Jay Jacobs announced Friday that John Pawlowski has been named head baseball coach. Pawlowski spent the previous nine seasons as the head coach at the College of Charleston, where he led the program to three NCAA postseason berths, one Super Regional appearance and four Southern Conference titles.

“This is a tremendous opportunity and I’m looking forward to helping bring the Auburn baseball program back to national prominence,” Pawlowski said. “There is a rich history and tradition here at Auburn and I plan on working tirelessly to make this a national contender.”

DALLAS – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA)­ released the Pro-Line Athletic National Player of the Week awards for the period ending May 18, today. College of Charleston junior third baseman Jeremie Tice was named National Hitter of the Week, while Maryland sophomore right-hander Scott Swinson was named National Pitcher of the Week. We have some interesting Mid-Week games coming up on Tuesday which is highlighted by Clemson and Georgia playing a home and home series. The College of Charleston will play against cross town rival Charleston Southern while Alabama will play two games against UAB, Ohio State plays Toledo, Coastal Carolina will play against Wake Forest and Elon.
