Providence, R.I. – Brown took a pair of tight games against Ivy rival Columbia on Sunday afternoon, as Bruno’s bats continued to swing well. Sophomore Matt Colantonio (Garden City, N.Y.) blasted a two-run walk-off home run to center field in the second game, bringing the fans to their feet and the team streaming out onto the field as the Bears ran their league win streak to six consecutive games. Princeton, N.J. – Brown continued to play well on the first weekend of Ivy play, sweeping a doubleheader with Princeton by a combined score of 14-5. Junior infielder Robert Papenhause (Hillsborough, CA) had a terrific day at the plate for the Bears, going four-for-six with a pair of walks, a home run, and four RBI’s. Ithaca, N.Y. – Brown split with Cornell on Saturday afternoon, going 1-1 to open Ivy League play. Sophomore designated hitter Pete Greskoff (Paoli, PA) had the big hit for the Bears in the opener, coming through with a three-run home run in the top of the fifth. PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Penn’s Jeremy Maas (Alpharetta, Ga.) perfected his swing in Florida and went on an absolutely torrid pace to lead the Quakers during the Spring trip, hitting .516 for the week – ending the trip with a .524 for average on the season. This week, the sophomore had multi-hit games in all but one contest, with three hits in three of the seven games played. He has at least one hit in all ten of the team’s games this season. Six of his 16 hits were doubles, and nine total went for extra bases. In Sunday’s game against Georgetown, Maas hit a three-run home run in the second inning to blow open a 2-0 game and pace Penn to a 5-0 lead that turned into a 9-5 win. For the season, Maas has a slugging pct. of .881 and an on-base pct. of .523 for an OPS of 1.404.

The UC Riverside Baseball Team completed the three-game sweep of the Columbia Lions with a 15-5 win at the Riverside Sports Complex Sunday afternoon. Carl Uhl drove in five runs on the day and Tony Nix extended his hitting streak to 15 games with a fourth-inning double. The win is the fifth straight for the Highlanders (14-3) and 11th in the past 12 games.

Princeton’s Brian Berkowitz (Marietta, Ga.) enjoyed a nice series against William & Mary over the weekend, pacing the Tigers from the plate. The junior outfielder was a menace at the plate, and finished six-for-13 (.462). Two the six hits were home runs, including a grand slam in the third game of the weekend. The Texas State baseball team held a 9-1 lead over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi with Kane Holbrooks on the mound, but costly relief in the final frame nearly saw the win disappear, but the Bobcats managed to hold off the charge for a 9-6 win at Whataburger Field Saturday afternoon.
Texas State improves to 5-2 on the season and 2-0 in league action, while A&M-Corpus Christi falls to 1-6 and 0-2, respectively.

The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders rallied for three runs in the bottom of the ninth and had the tying run at the plate but came up short 7-4 in their Southland Conference opener versus Texas State at Whataburger Field on Friday night.
The Islanders drop to 1-5 overall and 0-1 in the Southland Conference with the loss, while Texas State is now 4-2 and 1-0.

Share The College Baseball Blog continues our previews of conferences around the nation today with a preview of the Gehrig Division of the Ivy League. The Columbia Lions won the divisional title last season which qualified them for the Ivy League Championship series. The CBB has come across 7 more College Baseball Schedules- Michigan, Columbia, Gardner Webb, St. Louis, Kansas, Southeastern Louisiana, and Virginia Tech.
Gardner Webb will play 36 home games out of a 56 2009 College Baseball Schedule. First up on the slate will be 4 game series against Canisius staring on the 20th of February.
Gardner Webb will get the Atlantic Sun Conference started with a series against Presbyterian. They will wrap the season on May 14th against Winthrop and then the Conference Tournament will start the following weekend.
