LAFAYETTE – University of Louisiana student-athletes from all sports will be participating in a bus tour to promote literacy and give back to their former elementary schools on November 16 and 17, 2009. While riding on the Ragin’ Cajuns-wrapped Calco bus, student-athletes will be visiting elementary schools in the Acadiana area and reading Jady Regard’s book Born to Be a Ragin’ Cajun to the elementary school students.

DOVER, Del. (November 4, 2009) — On Monday, November 2, the Delaware State Baseball continued DSU’s commitment to the local community when the team visited the Campus Community School.
The team spent the afternoon, spending time with first-grade students, talking about baseball and reading to one another. The Hornets began the afternoon reading to the first-grade class. The elementary students then followed by choosing to read to the DSU players.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac University baseball and tennis team’s visited the Fair Haven School in New Haven, Conn. to read to several groups of young students. Quinnipiac assistant athletic director of academic support Lyneene Richardson coordinated the event, while tennis head coach Mike Quitko, baseball head coach Dan Gooley organized the Quinnipiac student-athletes for the trip.

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State baseball team is busy this off season with practice, weights, school and community service. The Bulldogs spent a couple hours after practice on Oct. 23 reading with students at Kratt Elementary.

The Rhode Island Rams baseball program recently took part in the Walk Now for Autism Event at Colt State Park in Bristol, Rhode Island. The baseball program has a special connection to Autism as head coach Jim Foster’s daughter Delaney is affected by the disease. The team was some of the over 3,000 walkers who ended up raising over $191,000 for the cause. You can check out the full press release below.
