Bombers game canceled in the 4th inning due to inclement weather.

Bryan-College Station, TX (August 3, 2008) –

For the second straight season, the Bombers home finale was cancelled due to inclement weather. The game was cut short in the middle of the fourth inning, as lightning and an impending thunderstorm forced the umpires to call the game early.

Although the Bombers trailed 3-0 when the game was cut short, it will not be considered an official game since five innings were not completed. The game was a scoreless tie until the Marshals put three runs on the board against Cody Springer in the top of the fourth inning. With the bases loaded, J.B. Brown singled to center field to score Mike Walker to put the Marshals on the board first and then Nick Schwaner and Brown scored on two of four walks issued by Springer.

Riley Boening Picture From Donald J Boyles

In the TCL contest last night pitting the Pump Jack of East Texas and the Copperheads of Coppell it was a pitcher duel between the Pump Jack Michael LaCourse and the Copperheads Riley Boening.

LaCourse went a very strong 6 inning giving up 4 hits and striking out 7 while allowing 3 walks in a no decision before giving away Ed Hurta in the 7th. Ed takes the loss after giving up a lead off single to Marcellous Biggins, Hurta comes back to get Michael Pair to fly out to center field for the first out of the inning. This brings up Robert Barbosa, who lines one to right field for a one out double to bring in Biggins for the first run of the game. The 2nd out of the inning was recorded when Jaron Shepard flied out to left field. Then a critical error by Pat McCrory allows Bryan Johns to reach first base which allows Barbosa to score the 2nd run of the inning. Travis Sample grounds out to end the inning.

The East Texas Pump Jacks started Saturday in a tie with the Coppell Copperheads for second place, 2.5 games behind the McKinney Marshals for first.

When Saturday night’s game in Coppell concluded, not only had the Pump Jacks slipped into third place, but the Copperheads had done something that no other team had been able to do this season: Beat East Texas in extra innings.

Coppell scored in the bottom of the tenth inning to steal a win from the Jacks, 8-7, and take over second place all alone with seven games remaining in the regular season. The top two teams in the league will have home-field advantage in the TCL playoffs, which begin on Tuesday, August 5.

FROM CBB NEWS SOURCES

Another late comeback attempt by the Marshals on Wednesday was averted by the Copperheads for the second consecutive night, allowing Coppell (19-19) to beat McKinney (21-16) 8-6 and move to within 2 and 1/2 games of the TCL lead.

Coppell held an 8-1 lead going into the 8th inning, but McKinney was able to put up two in that inning and three more in the 9th, but it was still not enough.

McKinney starting pitcher Jimmy Nelson (Alabama) earned the loss pitching into the fifth inning but allowing five runs on five hits with four walks and four strikeouts.

McKinney’s defense was subpar on the evening as only three of the eight Coppell runs were earned. Errors by Jake Smith (Alabama), Nick Schwaner (New Orleans) and J.B. Brown (Pacific) were all costly.
