Share The NCBWA has put out their 2010 Division 2 Preseason National Poll and Regional Polls. Emporia State out of Kansas comes in at the top spot in the country with Southern Arkansas coming in at number two. Share Aaron Fitt of Baseball America is reporting that the NCAA Division 2 schools have voted by a 3/4 majority to cut the season from 56 games down to 50. This is an interesting development as it lessens the effects of increased travel for the schools and cuts down opportunities for the student athletes.

Share Boston Globe correspondent John Vellante recently wrote a fantastic article on former UMass-Lowell manager Jim Stone who won over 800 games in his 37 year career. He had 11 NCAA Northeast Regional Appearances, two Division 2 College World Series Appearances and was named NEIBA Coach of the Year seven times while being named ABCA Northeast Region Coach of the Year on five occasions. He told Vellante that his biggest accomplishment was sending over 50 players onto professional baseball whether the minor leagues or independent ball. He is set to be inducted into the ABCA Hall of Fame tonight.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Dowling College senior pitcher Gabriel Duran headlines the list of NCAA Division II baseball players named today to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Division II Preseason All-America teams.
The 2009 NCBWA Division II national “Pitcher of the Year,” Duran was one of four players named to the Preseason All-America team who also earned first-team All-NCBWA All-America honors last spring. He was joined in that group by Mesa State outfielder Kevin Becker, who earned All-America honors as a second baseman in 2009, South Carolina Aiken designated hitter Travis Howard and Lynn University starting pitcher Dan Wright.

Share The CBB continues our countdown for the 2010 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.
We continue the list today with number 90 in our countdown with Florida Southern junior RHP Daniel Tillman. He is a 6’1 195 pound righhander from Live Oak, Florida and Suwannee High School. He was a third-team all-state selection in his junior and senior season.

 Division 2 Baseball Regionals announced (Courtesy of NCAA)
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The NCAA Division II Baseball Committee has selected the 48 teams that will participate in the 2009 NCAA Division II Baseball Championship.
The championship provides for eight regional sites – six sites will host six teams, the West region will host four teams and the South region will host eight teams. All regionals are double-elimination tournaments and will be played at on-campus sites May 14-18. Regional champions will advance to the double-elimination championship finals May 23-30 at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina. Share The Warner Royals, ranked #13 in the NAIA, defeated the Florida Southern Moccasins 9-5 on Tuesday afternoon. Florida Southern is ranked #1 in Division II.
The Royals were led by 1B Dan Smith of Lake Monmorah, Australia. He was 2-5 with a home run and two RBI. DH Jason Griffin also hit a two-run home run for the Royals. Share Eastern Kentucky picked up a victory over Kentucky State on Wednesday afternoon by a score of 49-1. Eastern Kentucky is a member of the Ohio Valley Conference while Kentucky State is a member of Division 2 where they are struggling with a 2-16 record. Read the rest of this entry »

AUSTIN, Texas – The St. Edward’s baseball team battled intense wind gusts during a doubleheader split with Newman Saturday afternoon at Lucian-Hamilton Field. The Hilltoppers fell in game one, 3-2, and won the second contest, 11-0.
