GLENS FALLS, N.Y. – Championship Series’ Most Valuable Player Ryan Nokelby (Texas Lutheran) plated Jeff Abrams (Binghamton) with a 10th-inning sacrifice fly as the Brockport Riverbats edged the Glens Falls Golden Eagles, 3-2, in 10 innings to win the 2008 New York Collegiate Baseball League championship. Young, a former Freshman All-America selection at Mississippi State , will take over as assistant baseball coach. The Georgetown , Texas native played three seasons for the Bulldogs, finishing in the Top-10 all-time list for relief appearances. He was also named to the 2001 SEC All-Tournament Team and the 2001 SEC Tournament Most Valuable Player.

ARKADELPHIA – Ouachita Baptist University head baseball coach Chris Moddelmog announced Monday the hiring of Luke Howard.
Howard will assume the role of pitching coach and recruiting coordinator at Ouachita Baptist. He comes to OBU after a one year stint at Murray State University, a Division I school in the Ohio Valley Conference.
“Luke will bring a lot of energy and excitement to our program. He is a good recruiter and a tireless worker on and off the field. I look forward to him and his wife Anne joining the OBU baseball family,” Moddelmog said.

NYCBL East Division Player of the Week: Mark Onorati (Manhattan), Amsterdam
Mark Onorati batted .500 (8-for-16) and drove in a league-high 11 runs in four games for the Mohawks. He smashed two home runs, scored five runs, stole two bases, collected 15 total bases and recorded a .939 slugging percentage. Onorati had three multi-hit and four multi-RBI games. He tallied at least one hit in all four games and homered in back-to-back contests against Glens Falls and Bennington. Onorati currently leads the league with 16 runs scored and 15 RBI. ARKADELPHIA – Ouachita Baptist Director of Athletics David Sharp announced Friday the hiring of new Tiger baseball coach Chris Moddelmog from Fort Scott Community College.
Moddelmog succeeds Scott Norwood, who took the head coaching position at the University of Arkansas-Little Rock.
“I am very excited to announce that we have hired Chris to be our head baseball coach,” Sharp said. “He brings a very strong background in recruiting to our position. He will also bring a very aggressive style in the way he coaches the game. Also he has a good record of recruiting quality young men with the aspiration to attain a college degree. SAUGET, ILL. - No. 4 ranked Ouachita Baptist edged No. 2 ranked Sonoma State to advance to Saturday’s national championship game in the “if necessary” game of the NCAA Division II Championships Friday afternoon at GCS Ballpark.

SAUGET, Ill. – The bats struggled early, then came alive as the fourth-ranked Ouachita Baptist baseball team plated 10 runs between the fifth and seventh innings to eliminate Ashland , 12-5, during Wednesday’s NCAA Division II College World Series play at GCS Ballpark.
“We did a good job today,” Tigers coach Scott Norwood said. “We were emotionally spent after yesterday. Ashland is a great team and Trent (Lingle) did a good job on the mound.”

SAUGET, Ill. – Down seven runs after three innings, the fourth-ranked Ouachita Baptist baseball team battled back and did the unbelievable by sending No. 3 Tampa home with a 12-10 come-from-behind victory against the Spartans during Tuesday’s NCAA Division II College World Series play at GSC Ballpark.
“Our team was resillant tonight,” Tigers head coach Scott Norwood said. “They did it all and hung together. They deserve all the credit. You’re never going to be the best unless you beat the best. Tampa is the two-time defending champs and it was a great accomplishment from our program to go out there and fight back to get the win.”

SAUGET, ILL. - Top-ranked Mount Olive used four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to rally from a 5-2 deficit against No. 4 ranked Ouachita Baptist en route to a 6-5 victory in a first round game that began Sunday night and concluded Monday morning at GCS Ballpark.

SAUGET, ILL., May 20, 2008 - The field is set and beginning on Saturday, eight teams from across the country embark on their quest for an NCAA Division II baseball national championship.
SIU Edwardsville and the University of Missouri-St. Louis, along with the village of Sauget and the Gateway Grizzlies, will co-host this year’s World Series at GCS Ballpark in Sauget, Illinois, home of the Frontier League’s Grizzlies.
