Share There was three substantial size upsets today with the UMass, Utah, and Evansville all picking up wins. The UMass Minutemen fought off a late Arizona rally in the final two innings to pick up a 9-8 victory over the Wildcats. The Evansville Aces grabbed a 2-0 victory in Game 1 of a doubleheader with number 19th ranked Pepperdine Waves. The biggest upset of the day was the Utah Utes picking up a 2-0 shutout victory over the number seven ranked Texas A&M Aggies. Read the rest of this entry »

ST. LOUIS – Missouri State, which returns a dominating veteran pitching staff and solid depth from last year’s Missouri Valley Conference runner-up squad, has been tabbed as the league favorite in the annual coaches’ preseason poll, receiving eight of nine first place votes.
The Bears tallied 80 points and were a sound favorite over second-place pick Creighton (66 points). 2008 champion Wichita State, who secured the remaining first-place vote and 63 points overall, was picked to finish in the third position. Read the rest of this entry »

Share Wes Carroll will be named the new head coach of Evansville in the near future according to a report by tv station WFIE. Carroll has spent the last two seasons as an assitant at the school and will replace Dave Seifert. The full report from the TV station is available here.

Share Steve Ford of the Evansville Courier and Press reports that Evansville Aces head baseball coach David Seirfert is out after two years. Seifert announced his resignation on Friday.

This is the second head coaching position to come available in the Missouri Valley this offseason as Bradley’s Dewey Kalmer announced his retirement after 29 seasons at Bradley and 40 years overall as a head coach.

Sophomore Sheldon McDonald threw eight shutout innings of five-hit, nine-strikeout ball and did not walk a batter, as he led the Huskies to a 5-0 win over the Western Michigan Broncos on Wednesday afternoon at IMG Academies in BRadenton, Fla. Western Michigan entered the game having scored at least 15 runs in three of its last five games, but McDonald kept the Bronco bats silent all afternoon. Read the rest of this entry »

Dave Schrage has taken over the Notre Dame program effective immediately. He comes from University of Evansville where he brought the team to the Regional Final this past season. He compiled a 130-108 record in four seasons and has been the head coach previously at Northern Illinois and Northern Iowa. Full Press Release is available here.
