The Florida Atlantic University Owls picked up a 15-3 victory over the Boston College Eagles to split the two game set at a game a piece. The Owls jumped on Boston College starter Adam Crabtree in the fourth inning by scoring four runs in the inning to get a 5-1 lead. Trent Kavanaugh of Boston College ended up getting the game out of control in his 1.1 innings of work by allowing six runs (all earned) while giving up five hits and three walks. Robbie Widlansky went 3-4 for the Owls while Eric Campbell of BC went 2-4 with 2 RBI. FAU will be back in action on Tuesday when they host Maine while BC plays on Monday against Penn.

The Boston College Eagles picked up a solid 6-5 victory over the FAU Owls on Saturday evening. Boston College was led by home runs from Jett Ruiz and Jared McGuire. Ryan Hutchinson also chipped in with a 4-5 game with three doubles. Kevin Boggan gave the Eagles 5.0 innings while only allowing 2 runs which both came in on a Robbie Widlansky home run. Dan Houston gave up one hit in the ninth inning before picking up his first career save. The teams close out their quick 2 game set on Sunday at 1pm.

The FAU Owls slided by the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils by a score of 33-3 in only seven innings in the first game of a doubleheader. FAU won the second game 11-7. I want to focus on Game 1 because Mississippi Valley State pitcher Neal Belmonte pitched 2.0 innings and gave up 19 runs (only 5 earned). How does one coach let his pitcher take a beating like that? Are you telling me that there was no position players available to pitch?

The 2007 Signing period has started for College Baseball. The Boston College Eagles have signed 13 players including nine student-athletes from Massachusetts or Connecticut. This is a sign that Aoki will be focusing on dominating the recruiting trail with New England kids attending BC. We have a bunch of press releases on the rest of the country.

Kevin Cooney, the head coach at Florida Atlantic University, checks in with an article about the battles of the APR. The APR is a rating system for the athletic programs in the university which is based on the graduation rate and the eligibility of the student-athletes. Kevin’s article discusses the pros and cons of the new system. In the article, he shows many examples of situations that arose last season.

There is also an article from the Austin-American Statesman about the Texas Baseball program getting a scholarship back after having it stripped from them over a substandard score on the APR. I think if we want to follow the rules of the APR then Texas should have lost this scholarship. What has changed since they lost the scholarship?
