KevinO'Sullivan GatorCountry.com has a good look into the Florida Gators 2010 squad as it features 17 pitchers out of the 33 players on the roster. As people always say, you can never have enough pitching which is exactly what the Gators have for 2010. The Gators last season made a Super Regional appearance losing to Southern Miss to have their run to Omaha denied.

GatorScrimmage The University of Florida baseball team will host an Orange & Blue Scrimmage on Friday, Oct. 16, at McKethan Stadium starting at 3:45 p.m. This event will give fans a sneak peek of head coach Kevin O’Sullivan’s squad in action and is part of Homecoming Weekend on campus leading up to Gator Growl 2009: Legends of The Swamp that begins at 7 p.m. in Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.

FloridaBaseball The University of Florida baseball program and third-year head coach Kevin O’Sullivan announced its 2010 schedule on Wednesday. The Gators’ 56-game schedule features 34 games within the friendly confines of McKethan Stadium at Perry Field, where the squad compiled a 30-10 (.750) mark last season. UF has 30 games versus opponents who advanced to the NCAA Tournament, including home series against 2009 College World Series champion LSU and CWS participant Arkansas.

11-10-03 Road to Omaha The College Baseball Blog staff recently got together to start discussing the 2010 season. We have each put out our 2010 picks for the College World Series. The most popular selection is Texas showing up on all six ballots with LSU, Cal-State Fullerton, and Virginia showing up on five of them. FloridaFallBall The University of Florida baseball team will open its fall practice session on Friday, Sept. 25, at McKethan Stadium. The entire squad will have workouts, including several scrimmages, between Sept. 25 and Nov. 1. The fall practice will conclude with a pair of nine-inning games, in which the Gators are split into two teams, on Saturday, Oct. 31, and Sunday, Nov. 1.

DaveFuller Dave Fuller, the winningest baseball coach in University of Florida history, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 15, at North Florida Regional Hospital in Gainesville. He was 94.

“Coach Fuller’s loyalty and dedication to the coaching profession, and his love of the University of Florida, will always be remembered,” said UF Director of Athletics Jeremy Foley. “He had a significant positive influence on countless athletes, coaches and administrators.”

Fuller guided the Gator baseball program from 1948-75, producing a record of 557-354-6 and SEC Championships in 1952, 1956 and 1962, and he was selected as SEC Coach of the Year all three years. His clubs also won four Eastern Division titles, and played in four NCAA Regional tournaments.

MattdenDekker Kevin Brockway of The Gainesville Sun has an excellent article on the 2010 Florida Gators baseball program. The team received a boost with the decision of Matt den Dekker who decided to not sign with the Pittsburgh Pirates after being selected in the 16th round. He spent the summer of 2008 with the USA National Team where he hit .224 in 24 games. He finished the 2009 season with the Florida Gators with a .296 average with five homers and 37 RBI in 61 games. Coach O’Sullivan was able to hold onto seven out of his eleven recruits as they form one of the strongest recruiting classes in the country.

usa-baseball-logo(CARY, N.C.) – Christian Colon (Cal State Fullerton) hit an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth inning as the Blue Team defeated the Red Team 2-0 in a seven inning intrasquad game on Sunday at the USA Baseball National Team (Collegiate) Trials.

With runners on the corners and two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning, Christian Colon (Cal State Fullerton) hit an RBI single to right field that easily scored Casey McGrew (Wright State) from third base. Tyler Holt (Florida State) nearly scored from first base on the play but Colon was thrown out at second before he crossed the plate. Read the rest of this entry »
