(CARY, N.C.) – Preston Tucker (Florida) hit a solo home run in the sixth inning as the Blue Team defeated the Red Team 4-2 in a seven inning intrasquad game on Saturday at the USA Baseball National Team (Collegiate) Trials.
Tony Zych (Louisville) and Tyler Holt (Florida State) hit back-to-back doubles for the Blue Team in the third inning. Rick Hague (Rice) then placed a single to left-center field that scored both Zych and Holt and put the Blue Team in front 2-0 early. Read the rest of this entry »

(Omaha, NE) – University of Florida infielder Brandon McArthur, a student-athlete who helped his team to the NCAA Super Regional after overcoming a serious injury his freshman year, has been selected as the winner of the 2009 Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award in the baseball division.
The award, chosen by a nationwide vote of coaches, media and fans, is presented annually to college baseball’s outstanding NCAA Division I senior student-athlete. The announcement and trophy presentation were made today by Lowe’s, an Official Corporate Partner of the NCAA, during the 2009 NCAA Men’s College World Series in Omaha, Neb. MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – A total of 37 standout freshmen college baseball players from every part of the country are featured on the annual Pro-Line Athletic National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Freshman All-American Team, the organization announced today.
The 2009 Pro-Line Athletic NCBWA Freshman All-American Team is comprised from 17 conferences and 10 conference championship teams. The two All-American squads are also made up of 12 conference “Rookie of the Year” winners.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Southern Miss baseball team continued their magical post season run with a 9-7 victory over No. 8 national seed and home-standing Florida to open the NCAA Gainesville Super Regional. In a back and fourth game, it was fifth year senior Jonathon Johnston that proved to be the difference out of the Golden Eagle bullpen, working 3.2 scoreless innings, allowing 1 hits and striking out two while picking up his first win of the season. Share One would presume that a team making its record 37th straight NCAA Regional appearance and that was once ranked No. 2 in the country this season would be the favorite in its regional.

Share The NCAA has released the 2009 regional host sites. The ACC earned four regional hosts: Clemson, Georgia Tech, Florida State, and North Carolina. Florida, LSU, and Ole Miss will be hosting from the SEC. The Big 12 will have Texas and Oklahoma as hosts, and Conference USA will also have two hosts: Rice and East Carolina.
