I am pinch-hitting this week for Colin Weber as he had another commitment. The top series of the weekend sees Florida making their first trip to the new Alex Box Stadium to take on the LSU Tigers. The other marquee series is Arkansas visiting Alabama. The Vanderbilt Commodores have an important series at Georgia as they will give freshman Sonny Gray his first career start on Friday night. We also see Mississippi State visiting Ole Miss in an intrastate rivalry series. The other two series sees Auburn going to Kentucky and South Carolina heading to Tennessee. The road to the SEC championship will be well traveled this weekend with key series in both the Eastern and Western divisions.  The LSU Tigers, leaders by a half game in the SEC West, travel to Fayetteville to take on the Arkansas Razorbacks in a series that has more than just SEC title implications.  Both teams are in the hunt for national seeds in the upcoming NCAA Tournament, and a series victory could be the difference in home field advantage on the road to Omaha.  Read the rest of this entry »

Just when it started to look like the only interesting division race would be in the SEC West, Florida sent a message to the Georgia Bulldogs that they would not go down without a fight.  Georgia hit the road for a series at Ole Miss, and the Rebels rallied to a two games to one series victory after dropping the Friday night game.  Florida took advantage of the Georgia series loss, sweeping South Carolina to get within one game of the SEC East lead.  LSU sits alone on top of the SEC West after a sweep of Auburn at home.  Read the rest of this entry »

SEC conference play rolls on this weekend with some pivotal matchups that will impact a tight SEC West race.  Arkansas currently sits on top of the West, with a half game lead on LSU and Ole Miss and a one and a half game lead on Alabama.  Georgia leads Florida in the SEC East by three games.  The big matchup of the weekend will take place when the Georgia Bulldogs travel to Oxford to take on Ole Miss.  The Rebels enter the weekend on a three game winning streak, the longest current winning streak in the conference.  South Carolina travels to Florida in an Eastern Division clash.  Read the rest of this entry »

With a weekend full of exciting baseball and some surprises, the SEC conference provided plenty of entertainment.  The spotlight series of the weekend was Arkansas at Georgia, and the two teams played three hard-fought games, with all three games decided by a total of four runs.  LSU entered the weekend with what looked like an easy weekend opponent in Tennessee, but the Volunteers marched into the new Alex Box Stadium and took two of three from the Bayou Bengals.  Read the rest of this entry »

uga2The SEC race heats up this weekend with another big series in Athens, Georgia.  The Georgia Bulldogs took the lead in the SEC race after an impressive sweep of Kentucky last weekend.  This weekend they welcome the Arkansas Razorbacks into town, with the Hogs trailing the Bulldogs in the SEC race by only a half game.  Florida sits in second place in the SEC East behind Georgia and will have a stiff home challenge in Ole Miss, who sports the same 9-6 conference record as the Gators.  Vanderbilt, who posted a two game sweep over Arkansas last weekend, looks to improve on their 7-7 SEC record when the Alabama Crimson Tide visit Nashville. I usually don’t bring up too many high school baseball articles but thought these two were very interesting.

The first article come from Rivals.com which talks about Clovis West High School which has thrown three no-hitters in their first six games of the season. The interesting part is that each of the no-hitters was thrown by a different pitcher. Read the rest of this entry »
