FRESNO, Calif. – Jordan Ribera returns for his sophomore campaign after starting 16 and appearing in 43 games as a freshman. Ribera recorded five homeruns, 16 RBIs and finished the year with a .215 batting average. Ribera took a moment after practice to sit down with gobulldogs.com and answer a few questions.

The Merced Sun-Star has a great article on Fresno State’s Tommy Mendonca discussing his breakout season in 2008. He started last season with a .171 average over the first month. After two months, it raised to .209 while striking out 40 times before April 1st. He ended up finishing the regular season with a .259 average, 14 homers, and 47 RBI. FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno State baseball kicks off the 2009 season with the 29th annual Golf Classic at Brighton Crest on Fri., Feb. 13. Following the golf tournament is the 22nd annual Double Play Dinner at 7:30 p.m. at the Fresno Convention Center New Exhibit Hall. Social hour will begin at 6:00 p.m.

Patrick Ebert of PGCrossChecker.com recently posted a fantastic article about the 2009 MLB Draft profiling some of the top players in the nation. The articles talks about some of the top High School players in the country in Matthew Purke and Tyler Matzek. (We saw both in the AFLAC All-American and the Under Armour All-American games.) He also talks about the two independent pitchers in Tanner Scheppers formerly of Fresno State and Aaron Crow formely of Missouri who decided to not sign professional contracts after last year and will not return to college as they await the 2009 draft. Six commit to Virginia Tech baseball in early signing period

The Virginia Tech baseball coaching staff announced on Wednesday the official signing of five players to National Letters of Intent for the 2009-10 school year, as well as the addition of one transfer from an SEC school.

The new signees scheduled to join the Hokies for the 2010 season include outfielder/first baseman Tyler Horan of Boston College High School in Middleboro, Mass., pitcher Joe Mantiply of Tunstall High School in Danville, Va., catcher Chad Morgan of Paul VI Catholic High School in Springfield, Va., pitcher/first baseman Patrick Scoggin of Douglas S. Freeman High School in Richmond, Va., and shortstop/pitcher Brent Zimmerman of Nova High School in Cooper City, Fla. Also joining Tech in 2010 will be shortstop Tim Smalling, a Raleigh, N.C., native who spent the past two seasons starting for the University of Arkansas.

Fresno State baseball continues their daily routine of fall workouts and practice in preparation for the 2009 season. Here is what has been happening to the Bulldogs in the last couple of weeks.

College World Series DVD Box Set Available Nov. 1

Junior Wes Musick and the Cougars begin fall practice Wednesday.

Houston Baseball Begins Fall Practice Wednesday

The University of Houston baseball team will look to build off a successful 2008 season when it begins fall practice Wednesday at Cougar Field.

Practices are tentatively set to begin at 2:30 p.m. and will be closed to the public during the week. The weekend practices will be open to all fans, and times will be announced on a week-by-week basis.
