GREENVILLE, S.C. — Thirty three home games, including five contests at Greenville’s Fluor Field and clashes against Clemson, South Carolina, and Georgia highlight Furman’s 2010 baseball schedule, which was released today by Paladin head coach Ron Smith.
Furman will open the season on Friday, Feb. 19 when it entertains Michigan State at Fluor Field in a 4:00 p.m. game. The next day the Paladins face Miami University, also a Fluor Field, before wrapping up a challenging first weekend at Clemson on Sunday, Feb. 21.

The latest nine join the six signees announced in November in giving Furman 15 new players for the 2010 season.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida State (35-12) scored early and often Wednesday night in cruising to a 15-5 victory over Florida International (30-19) on Mike Martin Field inside Dick Howser Stadium. The Seminoles tallied 11 runs in the first three innings as every FSU starter registered a hit as it was the first meeting between the two schools since 1991. The ACC had a tough day on March 3rd with only one victory with Boston College edging Florida Gulf Coast. The rest of the conference struggled highlighted by Miami (FL) being shutout 3-0 by Rhode Island and Jacksonville knocking off Florida State 9-4. The rest of the games on March 3rd were canceled due to the large snowstorm which still is wrecking havoc with many college baseball fields in the southern part of this country. SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference baseball coaches and the voting members of the Southern Conference Sports Media Association have each selected Elon as the preseason favorite to repeat as champion in 2009. A year ago, the Phoenix became the first team in seven seasons to win both the regular season and tournament titles en route to a 44-18 season and a berth in the NCAA Regionals. GREENVILLE, S.C. — Furman head baseball coach Ron Smith today announced the signing of six players to national letters of intent, including a trio of Upstate products.
Catcher/first baseman Paul Nitto of Greenville’s J.L. Mann High School along right handed pitcher Dylan Cole and shortstop Will Muzika of Spartanburg’s Dorman High School are among the Paladins’ six signees. The other three recruits inking with Furman include right-handed pitcher Matt Plate of Mount Pisgah Christian High School in Alpharetta, Ga., centerfielder Jake Kline of Needham Broughton High School in Raleigh, N.C., and Nate Smith, a left-hander pitcher from Lakota West High School in West Chester, Ohio.

In the American League East, the last 10 years have been dominated by the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox as they have finished first and second in nine of those seasons. Share A couple of former MLB players were recently named new assistant coaches. Rusty Greer who made a name for himself with the Texas Rangers was recently added to the coaching staff of NAIA school Texas Wesleyan. He served as the manager of the Colleyville Lone Stars of the Texas Collegiate League in 2007 and this summer is coaching the Dallas Baseball Academy which is a 17 year old team. Britt Reames who pitched in the Major Leagues most recently in 2006 has been named the new pitching coach of Furman University. He is a 1996 graduate of The Citadel and will be inducted into the Hall of Fame on November 1st. The full article is available here.
