I regained power at my home this evening around 11:30pm. The full power of this website will return tomorrow morning as I will continue the Top 50 countdown tomorrow morning. I hope noone missed me too much the last few days because I missed talking about College Baseball.

After spending over 72 hours at my place without heat, we decided to ditch the place and go to a family’s place. I currently have some WiFi access where I am at now. I hope to be at my house tomorrow but you never know. I will be posting on occasion until I can get back to my full coverage.

Lost Power

If you have been looking for the CBB Top 50 for today we regret to inform you that our Editor Brian Foley lost power last night due to the major Ice Storm that hit the North East and is still with out power. I am sure it was a cold night for Brian. If you have any questions or concerns you may contact us. Our emails are listed on the right side with our names. Brian, hopes to have his power back sometime this weekend but you never know.

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee’s head baseball coach Steve Peterson has returned home after open heart surgery last week.

Peterson went home on Saturday and is resting comfortably under his doctor’s care.

As the Recruiting Period winds down the contact period officially end August 31st. Contact Period is permissible for authorized athletic department staff members to make in-person, off-campus recruiting contacts and evaluations. Then the Quiet Period starts up and runs from September 1st until September 11th. Quiet Period means- permissible to make in-person recruiting contacts only on the member institution’s campus.

Then the Contact Period starts back up again and runs from the September 12th all the way through November 9th. Starting on November 10 is the Dead Period(not permissible to make in-person recruiting contacts or evaluations on- or off-campus or permit official or unofficial visits.) This coincide with The Early Signing Period for College Baseball. The early signing period will be from the 12th of November to the 19th of November.

I was shocked to find out that Deadspin.com had linked to some college baseball articles on Monday. The first one revolves around Buzz Bissinger who went to the CWS in Omaha a few weeks ago. The Daily Herald out of Everett Washington has put out a very good article about college players adjusting to the wood bats in the lower levels of the minor leagues. They talk with Aaron Cunningham who played for Everett Community College and has become one of the top prospects for the Oakland A’s. The Everett Community College baseball program plays in the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges which is a all-wood bat conference. Read the rest of this entry »

The NCAA baseball committee sat down and discuss some changes to some rules to help speed up the game and for safety purposes.

  • enforcing time limits (a pitch must be delivered within 20 seconds with no runners on base)
  • the batter’s box rule (the batter must generally keep one foot in the box during an at-bat)
  • handling of conferences (defensive and offensive)
  • speeding the time between innings and during pitching changes were areas the committee identified as areas of possible improvement
  • This season, all base coaches are required to wear a helmet when coaching the bases.
  • The committee also believes that, in some cases, fields are not being lined properly before play begins.
