WASHINGTON, DC – George Washington Head Baseball Coach Steve Mrowka has announced the addition of Tim Brown as an assistant coach. Brown spent the 2009 season as a volunteer assistant coach in his first year with the Colonials staff.
"The hiring of Tim Brown allows us to maintain some continuity in the coaching of our pitchers," said Mrowka. "Last season, Tim was our volunteer pitching coach and he did an excellent job in that role. I fully expect him to excel as the full-time pitching coach. His commitment to GW and outstanding work ethic will be a nice asset in our recruiting efforts as well."

The first Coca-Cola Pitcher of the Week of 2009 hails from Bourne, with Braves pitcher Eric Cantrell securing that honor. Cantrell put on a masterful performance in the Braves’ first win of the year, a 5-1 victory over Wareham, recording eight shutout innings and improving to 1-0 on the season. The Buff team scored four first inning runs off Bobby Lucas, which helped power them to a 6-3 win in Game 3 of the series. Sean Rocky lead off by hitting the first pitch over the center-field wall and the Buff team sent eight batters to the plate in the inning where they scored four runs on four hits along with two walks. WASHINGTON, DC – In a game dominated by pitching, junior Curtis Eward gave the Blue Team a 2-1 victory in Game 1 in the Buff & Blue Fall World Series. Eward doubled home fellow junior Will Cooper on a 2-0 offering from Sophomore right hander Tom Gately. Spokane, Wash. (http://www.gozags.com May 3, 2008) Jason Chatwood hit a solo walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth for Gonzaga University Saturday as the Bulldogs defeated the University of San Francisco 6-5 at Patterson Baseball Complex and Washington Trust Field in Spokane, Wash. The three-game West Coast Conference series between the Zags and Dons is now tied 1-1.
After surrendering a game tying run in the top of the ninth, Gonzaga (28-19, 8-8) entered its half of the ninth inning with the scored knotted at five. The leadoff batter in the inning flied out for the first out of the inning, before Chatwood stepped in. The junior then hit a one-run home run just over the leftfield wall to give the Bulldogs the 6-5 victory. The walk-off was the first of the season for GU and the first since Mark Castellitto’s walk-off against Loyola Marymount University last season. Read the rest of this entry »

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Collin Cowgill and Ryan Wilkes delivered solo home runs, lifting the 17th-ranked Kentucky Wildcats to a 2-1 victory over state rival Western Kentucky – sweeping the two-game season series – in front of a WKU school-record 3,057 fans at Nick Denes Field.
Kentucky (31-10, 9-9 Southeastern Conference) got the only two runs it needed from Cowgill and Wilkes. Cowgill’s home run was his 16th of the season, good for second in the NCAA, three behind Georgia shortstop Gordon Beckham’s 19 homers on the year. CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Freshman catcher Yasmani Grandal drove in the game-winning run after junior Dave DiNatale hit a two-run game-tying single in the bottom of the eighth as No. 2 Miami rallied to defeat Bethune-Cookman, 7-6, Wednesday night at Mark Light Field. TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – University of Alabama senior first baseman Matt Bentley slammed two home runs, including a solo blast in the fifth inning that gave the Crimson Tide the lead for good, in a 9-5 win over the Samford Bulldogs Wednesday night at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.
Bentley went 2-for-4 with two home runs and three RBI in leading the Crimson Tide to its sixth straight win. Bentley gave the Tide the lead for good with a two-out, solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning off losing pitcher Michael Jarry.
