Washington, D.C. – The Georgetown University baseball team announced their 2010 schedule on Monday afternoon. The Hoyas will play nine BIG EAST series this season, five at Shirley Povich Field. GU will also take on the top six teams in the BIG EAST standings from 2009 and national power Virginia.

Share Kendall Rogers of Rivals continues his series of conference previews heading into fall ball today with the Big East Conference. He believes that the conference needs to take a massive step forward after the top three teams in St. John’s, Louisville, and Notre Dame in competing for a CWS title. Of course, the Big East has a major disadvantage as many of the schools in the conference have substandard facilities and poor weather which affects early season workouts.

Share The Georgetown Athletic Department was placed on three years probation after an internal investigation discovered irregularities within the baseball program. The investigation focused on how 26 Georgetown student-athletes were members of a Work-Study program from the 2000-2001 to the 2006-2007 school years. Each of the student-athletes played for the baseball program while also working for the team doing various tasks, from laundry to trash pick-up or field preparations. The players were told by an assistant coach to fill out their time cards for blocks of time instead of the actual hours they worked. Of course, some of the time which the players were compensated for was never actually worked.

Washington, D.C. – Georgetown Baseball Head Coach Pete Wilk announced that the Hoyas will be welcoming 10 new players to the fold this upcoming season. Corbin Blakey, Paul Bello, Chris Casale, Neal Dennison, Mike Garza, James Heine, Justin Leeson, Thomas Polus, Danny Poplawski and Charlie Steinman comprise the incoming class for the Blue & Gray. PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa. – UConn scored six runs in the fifth inning to jump to a five-run lead en route to its 33rd win of the season as the Huskies downed Villanova 16-6 in their final regular season game of the 2009 season. MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Senior Joe Agreste and freshman left-hander Jonathan Jones had stellar performances to lead the West Virginia University baseball team to a doubleheader sweep over Cincinnati on Saturday at Hawley Field.
Agreste’s four-RBI effort led the Mountaineers (33-14, 15-8) to a 15-9 victory in a back-and-forth battle in game one, and Jones (6-1) held a powerful Cincinnati offense to just one run on seven hits while striking out seven in 7.1 innings pitched in WVU’s 9-2 win in game two. TAMPA, Fla. – Senior Michael Hill (Proctorville, Ohio/Fairland) pitched eight innings and struck out eight men leading the University of Cincinnati baseball team to a 4-2 win over USF Saturday night at Red McEwen Field. The UC win handed USF its first home loss in conference play. Senior Jake Geglein (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) entered the game in the ninth inning and retired the side in order earning his seventh save of the season. (5-2) earned his team-leading third complete game and tied the team lead with his second complete game shutout after striking out six batters and allowing no walks and seven hits to defeat Georgetown, 6-0, Saturday afternoon at Owen T.
