ATLANTA – Led by a trio of home runs, the Georgia State baseball team earned a 10-1 upset win over #3 Georgia Tech on Tuesday night at Russ Chandler Stadium. CORAL GABLES, Fla. – A trio of Ohio State pitchers, led by starter and winner Alex Wimmers (now 5-0), one-hit the No. 2 Miami Hurricanes and the Buckeye bats did more than enough to secure a 7-1 victory Tuesday before 1,755 fans at Alex Rodriguez Park. Ohio State, ranked 16th in the Collegiate Baseball poll, improves to 18-3 with the win while Miami, No. 2 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association poll, falls to 18-5. CAA BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Chris Henderson, George Mason
Jr., C, Marlton, N.J./Cherokee
Henderson batted .440 with five doubles, a triple, a homer, four RBI and six runs scored as George Mason went 5-1 last week. He hit .615 (8-13) as the Patriots won two of three at CAA foe ODU, including becoming just the second player in school history to hit for the cycle in Saturday’s 4-2 triumph. Every CAA team with the exception of Hofstra will engage in conference play this weekend. The Pride, along with Old Dominion and William & Mary, are the only three teams in the eleven team league with a losing record thus far.

CAA BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Matt Browning, James Madison Jr., OF, Mystic, Conn./Fitch
Browning batted .647 (11-17) with three doubles, a homer, seven runs scored and four RBI in JMU’s five games last week. The junior outfielder had at least two hits in four of the five games and had a 1.000 slugging percentage. For the season, Browning is hitting .368 with 13 RBI. Read the rest of this entry »

ShareIt’s week two of CAA baseball. Here’s a quick rundown of the teams in action this weekend.
-Northeastern will hold its annual scrimmage with the Boston Red Sox Saturday at 1 p.m. in Fort Myers. Check out live updates here.
The Huskies will continue their regular season with a doubleheader Sunday against Northwestern in Winter Haven, Fla.

Share Ten of the eleven CAA teams were in action this weekend in non- conference games. Here’s a quick run down of each team.
-George Mason started the year 4-0 for just the third time in school history. The Patriots competed in the Courtyard by Marriott Baseball Classic in Spartanburg, S.C. Righty Kevin Crum (1-0 0.00) and second baseman Ryan Soares (.500-1-4) were named the all-tournament team.
-UNC Wilmington started the season off with a three game sweep of Maryland at home. Outfielder Grayson Evans (.417) had 7 RBI in the series. Read the rest of this entry »

Share For the first time since 2004, the Colonial Athletic Association sent two teams (James Madison and UNC Wilmington) to the NCAA tournament. The Georgia State baseball team added three student-athletes who signed a National Letter of Intent during the early signing period, head coach Greg Frady announced Thursday. The trio includes a pair of pitchers and a catcher who will play for the Panthers starting with the 2010 season.
“Overall, I am very happy with our signing class,” commented Head Coach Greg Frady. “We really wanted to bring in some quality, difference makers and I feel that we have done that. I think we hit the target on these three very experienced, quality student-athletes.” Read the rest of this entry »

Houston Baseball Begins Fall Practice Wednesday
The University of Houston baseball team will look to build off a successful 2008 season when it begins fall practice Wednesday at Cougar Field.
Practices are tentatively set to begin at 2:30 p.m. and will be closed to the public during the week. The weekend practices will be open to all fans, and times will be announced on a week-by-week basis.
