PP7_JustinGrimm The Coca-Cola Pitcher of the Week for July 26 through August 1st is Cotuit’s Justin Grimm(Georgia). On August 1st, Grimm was able to stymie a high-powered Bourne offense, surrendering only one earned run in a 6-2 win. Over his seven and a third innings of work, the 6-4 flamethrower scattered six hits while striking out 10. Grimm’s command was excellent: he did not walk a batter all night.

Bourne lefty Bryan Morgado (Tennessee) has been named Coca-Cola Pitcher of the Week, joining fellow Brave Eric Cantrell (George Washington), who won the award the first week of the season. TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Ohio State, bullied around by Georgia Friday night, returned the favor and sent the No. 2 seed Bulldogs home from the NCAA Tallahassee Regional with a come-from-behind 13-6 win Sunday. TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Ohio State defeated Marist, 6-4, in an NCAA Tallahassee Regional elimination game behind key hits from Michael Arp and Ryan Dew and flawless work out of the bullpen. Georgia 24 Ohio State 8

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.-Georgia exploded for eight runs in the first inning and rolled to a 24-8 win over Ohio State in game one of the Tallahassee Regional Friday at Dick Howser Stadium.

HOOVER, Ala. ­­— Caleb Cotham continued Vanderbilt’s strong run of starting pitcher at the Southeastern Conference tournament, pitching seven innings of five-hit ball to lead Vanderbilt to an 11-1 win over No. 20 Arkansas Saturday morning at Regions Park.

Vanderbilt 4, #2 LSU 1

HOOVER, Ala. ­­— Mike Minor pitched his second complete game victory in three games to lead Vanderbilt to a 4-1 win over No. 2 LSU Wednesday night in the opening round of the Southeastern Conference tournament at Regions Park.

Minor (6-4), pitching on four days rest, scattered six hits over nine innings and allowed just one run while striking out five and walking three. Read the rest of this entry »

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Alabama outfielder Kent Matthes was selected 2009 SEC Baseball Player of the Year, LSU’s Louis Coleman was named SEC Pitcher of the Year and Florida first baseman Preston Tucker and LSU reliever Matty Ott were named SEC Co-Freshmen of the Year by a vote of the league’s 12 head baseball coaches.
