TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Ohio State, bullied around by Georgia Friday night, returned the favor and sent the No. 2 seed Bulldogs home from the NCAA Tallahassee Regional with a come-from-behind 13-6 win Sunday. Ohio State 6 Marist 4

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Ohio State defeated Marist, 6-4, in an NCAA Tallahassee Regional elimination game behind key hits from Michael Arp and Ryan Dew and flawless work out of the bullpen. Here is your recap from the first day of action at the Tallahassee Regional.

Georgia 24 Ohio State 8

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.-Georgia exploded for eight runs in the first inning and rolled to a 24-8 win over Ohio State in game one of the Tallahassee Regional Friday at Dick Howser Stadium.

HOOVER, Ala. ­­— Caleb Cotham continued Vanderbilt’s strong run of starting pitcher at the Southeastern Conference tournament, pitching seven innings of five-hit ball to lead Vanderbilt to an 11-1 win over No. 20 Arkansas Saturday morning at Regions Park.

The first round of the SEC Tournament is in the books.  Here is a rundown of the day’s action.

Vanderbilt 4, #2 LSU 1

HOOVER, Ala. ­­— Mike Minor pitched his second complete game victory in three games to lead Vanderbilt to a 4-1 win over No. 2 LSU Wednesday night in the opening round of the Southeastern Conference tournament at Regions Park.

Minor (6-4), pitching on four days rest, scattered six hits over nine innings and allowed just one run while striking out five and walking three. Read the rest of this entry »

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Alabama outfielder Kent Matthes was selected 2009 SEC Baseball Player of the Year, LSU’s Louis Coleman was named SEC Pitcher of the Year and Florida first baseman Preston Tucker and LSU reliever Matty Ott were named SEC Co-Freshmen of the Year by a vote of the league’s 12 head baseball coaches. The coaches also tabbed LSU skipper Paul Mainieri as SEC Coach of the Year. Ben Jones of Auburn was named SEC Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Read the rest of this entry »

The top 8 SEC teams collide in Hoover this week with a conference tournament championship and automatic bid to the NCAA tournament on the line.  The LSU Tigers find themselves as the top overall seed, posting a 20-10 record in SEC play and winning the tie-breaker over co-champion Ole Miss.  Florida,  the SEC East champs, earned the two seed.  Ole Miss, who finished tied with LSU for the league’s best record, will be the 3 seed.  Alabama will meet South Carolina in the 4/5 matchup.  Read the rest of this entry »

The SEC ends the regular season this weekend with each squad in conference play. Seven squads have booked a spot in the SEC Tournament with Kentucky and Vanderbilt battling for the eighth spot. I am pinch-hitting this week for Colin Weber as he had another commitment. The top series of the weekend sees Florida making their first trip to the new Alex Box Stadium to take on the LSU Tigers. The other marquee series is Arkansas visiting Alabama. The Vanderbilt Commodores have an important series at Georgia as they will give freshman Sonny Gray his first career start on Friday night. We also see Mississippi State visiting Ole Miss in an intrastate rivalry series. The other two series sees Auburn going to Kentucky and South Carolina heading to Tennessee.
