Georgia used a four run ninth inning to rally past the top overall seed in the College World Series 7-4 on Saturday. Miami headed into the top of the ninth with a 4-3 lead over 8-seed Georgia but two errors by Miami closer Carlos Gutierrez allowed the Bulldogs to score the upset over the Hurricanes.

Miami got on the board first in the bottomof the first inning on a solo home run by Jemile Weeks. Georgia tied the game in the top of the third inning on a single by Ryan Peisel but Miami came right back and retook the lead on a two run homer by Ryan Tekotte.

The Georgia Bulldogs will be heading to their sixth College World Series appearance and head coach Dave Perno’s third with the Bulldogs. They have an overall record of 41-23-1 after winning the SEC Regular Season title with a 20-9-1 record. The Bulldogs lost the first game of the Athens Regional to Lipscomb by a score of 10-7 before running off four victories with a 9-8 victory over Louisville, 14-3 victory over Lipscomb, and winning two straight games over Georgia Tech by scores of 8-0 and 18-6. Last weekend, Georgia hosted NC State for the best of three Super Regional. The Bulldogs won the first game by a score of 11-4 before dropping Game 2 10-6 and winning the winner take all game to get back to Omaha with a 17-8 shellacking of the Wolfpack. Lubbock, Texas - As eight teams load up and head to Omaha to continue the quest for the College Baseball National Championship, eight players are named as semi-finalists for the Brooks Wallace National Player of Year Award. College baseball has produced a fine class of young men to represent the “Wallace Watch” from the pre-season release to where it stands today.

ATHENS, GA - For the third time in the past five years, the Georgia Bulldogs are heading back to the College World Series. The seventh-ranked Bulldogs plated nine runs in the first inning and never looked back, crushing 15th-ranked N.C. State 17-8 to win the Athens Super Regional in front of 3,512 Sunday at Foley Field.

Georgia advances to the CWS for the sixth time in program history and the third time under head coach David Perno. The SEC Champion Bulldogs’ first game at Rosenblatt Stadium in the eight-team double-elimination field will be against either No. 1 national seed Miami or Arizona.

ATHENS, Ga. - NC State’s bats weren’t powerful Saturday afternoon, but they were productive.

Georgia 11 NC State 4

ATHENS, Ga. — Trevor Holder pitched a career-high 8.2 innings as seventh-ranked Georgia defeated 15th-ranked NC State, 11-2, in game one of the NCAA Athens Super Regional Friday before a crowd of 3,517 at Foley Field.

The Bulldogs (40-22-1) picked up their 40th win of the year while N.C. State dropped to 4-121. Georgia and NC State will meet in the second game of the best two-out-of-three series Saturday at noon ET (ESPN2).

NC State (41-21) grabbed an early 2-0 lead in the third, but Georgia answered with four runs of its own in the bottom half of the inning and a five-run outburst in the sixth put the game away as the Bulldogs cruised to their fifth straight win behind Holder.

The NC State Wolfpack head down to Athens Ga to take on the Georgia Bulldogs in a matchup between ACC/SEC schools. The Wolfpack have a 40-20 overall record while going 18-11 in the ACC. HOUSTON — Aaron Crow of Missouri, Joshua Fields of Georgia, Chris Hernandez of Miami (Fla.) and Brian Matusz of San Diego have been selected as finalists for The Roger Clemens Award, which honors the top pitcher in college baseball. The winner will be announced this summer in Houston.

The four pitchers were selected from a field of 10 semifinalists in a national vote of all Division 1 head baseball coaches, selected national college baseball media, previous winners of the R. STARKVILLE, Miss. (NCBWA) — University of Georgia relief pitcher Joshua Fields is the 2008 recipient of the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association’s Stopper of the Year Award, the NCBWA announced Wednesday.

Fields helped the Georgia Bulldogs (39-22-1) capture the 2008 Southeastern Conference baseball championship and made a pair of game-closing relief appearances last weekend as Georgia claimed the NCAA Athens Regional title. UGA continues its quest for a College World Series berth this weekend, hosting North Carolina State of the Atlantic Coast Conference in the NCAA Athens Super Regional at Foley Field. ATHENS, Ga. —Top-seeded and number eight national seed Georgia pounded out 18 hits and took advantage of six Georgia Tech errors to cruise to an 18-6 victory over the Yellow Jackets to win the NCAA Athens Regional Monday in front of 3,518 at Foley Field.

ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia defeated Lipscomb 14-3 and Georgia Tech 8-0 to force a game 7 in the Athens regional Monday.

In the first game against Lipscomb, right fielder Matt Olson went 5-for-6 and shortstop Gordon Beckham went 4-for-6, and first baseman Rich Poythress added 5 RBIs. Nathan Moreau earned the victory for the Bulldogs, improving to 4-2 on the season. The Lipscomb Bisons completed their season with a 33-30 record. Read the rest of this entry »
