SPOKANE, Wash. – Gonzaga University punched its ticket to the NCAA Tournament and clinched its first ever West Coast Conference Title with a 14-3 WCC Championship Series clinching victory over Loyola Marymount University Saturday afternoon. The Zags will be making their fifth trip to the NCAA Tournament and the first since 1981. That year was also the last time a Gonzaga team won a conference title (Nor-Pac Conference). Monday is always a slow night of College Baseball and this week was no exception as only three games took place. Dallas Baptist knocked off Oral Roberts 5-4 while Washington State picked up a 12-8 victory over BYU and lastly Gonzaga beat regional rival Washington 7-3. Read the rest of this entry »

Sophomores Caleb Shofner and Brooks Raley had four hits each on Sunday afternoon as No. 1 Texas A&M rallied for an 8-5 win over Wright State and a series sweep before 3,207 fans at Olsen Field.

With the Baseball Season finally here-here are the match ups on the teams in the Big 12. Baylor will be hosting Pacific in a 3 game series at the Baylor Ball Park. The Kansas Jayhawks will be taking part in the Service Academies Spring Classic, Millington, TN. Kansas State will be headed to Houston, Texas to take on Houston Cougars in a weekend series. Missouri is headed to the Grand Canyon Classic in Phoenix, Ariz where they will be playing Nevada and Gonzaga. Nebraska will be traveling to Louisiana-Lafayette in a four game set.

SPOKANE, Wash. – Gonzaga University head baseball coach Mark Machtolf has announced that seven players have signed their National Letters of Intent to play for the Bulldogs.

Joining the Zags for the 2010 season will be right-handed pitcher Chris Asing from Flower Mound, Tex., left-handed pitcher Liam Baron out of Perth, Australia, infielder Clayton Eslick from Gilroy, Calif., catcher Kevin Hawk out of Lewiston, Idaho, outfielder/left-handed pitcher Billy Moon from Spokane, left-hander pitcher/first baseman Jacob Partridge also out of Spokane and catcher/first baseman Brock Slavin out of Tumwater, Wash.

Santa ClaraSAN BRUNO, CA – San Diego and Pepperdine were picked as favorites to win this year’s WCC regular season title in the 2009 preseason baseball poll, as voted on by the head coaches in the conference. The Toreros and Waves have already been receiving several preseason accolades by several publications as San Diego has been ranked as high as No. 11 by Baseball America, while Pepperdine was ranked No. 17 in the same poll. San Diego and Pepperdine both received 45 points, with the Toreros receiving four first place votes to three for the Waves. Santa Clara, which has received votes in several preseason publications, was picked to finish third with 35 points. Gonzaga received the last remaining first place vote, and received 30 points, to come in at fourth place, edging out San Francisco, which received 26 points, for fifth place. Rounding out this year’s poll are Loyola Marymount, with 20 points, Saint Mary’s, with 14 points, and Portland, with nine points.

SPOKANE, Wash. – The 2009 Gonzaga University baseball schedule announced Friday includes seven teams ranked in the 2009 pre-season polls, including five squads that participated in the NCAA tournament a year ago.

Outfielder Drew Heid returns for his junior season.

Gonzaga University’s baseball team returned to the diamond this past week to begin their fall season.

The Bulldogs return six players that hit better than .300 for a last year’s squad that reached the 30-win plateau for the second consecutive season. This past summer a number of current and incoming Zags played in various collegiate summer leagues and nine players took home all-league honors following solid seasons for their respective clubs.
