JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) – The second of Dave DiNatale’s two homers lifted top-seeded Miami to a 15-12 victory over Georgia Tech on Thursday night in the 2008 Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Championship at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.
DiNatale’s ninth homer of the year, with two runners on, erased a 12-11 lead Georgia Tech had taken into the top of the ninth. Jemile Weeks added an insurance run with an RBI single later in the inning. Read the rest of this entry »

Share The ACC Tourney starts up tomorrow with the league split into two pools with four teams in each one. Pool A has Miami (FL), Clemson, NC State, and Ga Tech in it while Pool B has FSU, Wake Forest, UNC, and Virginia. I believe that Miami (FL) will meet UNC in the Finals. Read the rest of this entry »

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Miami, the top seed in this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Championship, led all schools with eight selections on the 2008 All-ACC Baseball Team and also claimed a pair of individual superlatives, as announced today by Commissioner John Swofford. CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Tim Federowicz went 2-for-5 with three RBI and then recorded the game-ending strikeout with the tying run on third base to lift No. 2 North Carolina to a 12-11 win over No. 1 Miami and a series victory Saturday at Mark Light Field. Behind a home run and five RBI from Tim Fedroff and four hits and two RBI from Kyle Shelton, the Tar Heels (45-10, 22-7 ACC) built an eight-run lead through five innings and held off a late rally by the Hurricanes (43-8, 23-5) to win their third straight series against UM. CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Freshman left-handed pitcher Chris Hernandez won for the 10th time with a seven-strikeout performance in 7 2/3 innings and junior first baseman Yonder Alonso hit his second career grand slam – which also was the second one against a team ranked No. 2 – as No. 1 Miami (43-6, 23-3 ACC) cruised to a 12-2 win over the second-ranked Tar Heels (43-10, 20-7 ACC) Thursday night to win the Atlantic Coast Conference Coastal Division. CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Jeremy Farrell’s two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the sixth inning provided the No. 24 Virginia baseball team with the go-ahead runs in a 5-4 win over No. 2 North Carolina Sunday in a rain-shortened game at Davenport Field. BLACKSBURG, Va. – Junior centerfielder Blake Tekotte tied a school record with three home runs and Miami hit five home runs in a game for the third time this season as the No. 1 ranked Hurricanes (40-5, 21-2 ACC) won its 40th game with a 12-4 win over Virginia Tech (20-29, 4-21 ACC) Friday evening at English Field.
