Miami (FL) at Virginia Tech

The Miami Hurricanes head north to Blacksburg VA to take on the Virginia Tech Hokies in a battle between the First place team and the worst team in the conference. The Hurricanes have an overall record of 39-5 and 20-2 in the tough ACC. The Hokies have a record of 20-28 and 4-20 in the ACC. The Hurricanes have one of the most potent lineups in the entire led by Yonder Alonso and Jemile Weeks. Alonso has a batting average of .384 with 14 homers and 50 RBI in 44 games. He has an on-base percentage of .550. Jemile Weeks leads the team with a .390 average with 16 stolen bases. Chris Hernandez has been perfect in his first collegiate season as he has a 8-0 record with a 2.70 ERA. ATHENS, Ga. — Freshman Deck McGuire pitched 7 strong innings for the Yellow Jackets, giving up just 1 run on 4 hits while striking out 9, to help Georgia Tech (34-14) to an 11-1 road victory over in-state rival Georgia (31-16-1). McGuire improved his record to 8-0 on the season as the Yellow Jackets remain undefeated in midweek games.

For Georgia Tech, juniors Luke Murton and Charlie Blackmon both contributed 3 hits including a home run each. Team captain Brad Feltes hit an 8th inning 2-run homer to seal the victory for the Jackets. Read the rest of this entry »

Ga Tech 11 Coastal Carolina 4

ATLANTA – Derek Dietrich collected three hits and drove in five runs to lead Georgia Tech (33-14) to an 11-4 victory over No. 15 Coastal Carolina (38-11) Sunday afternoon at Russ Chandler Stadium. The win helped Tech to its second-straight weekend series victory after defeating Wake Forest in two of three games a week ago.

Dietrich drove in runs in the first, fifth, sixth and eighth innings and hit his 14th home run of the season as the Yellow Jackets pushed their streak to 15-consecutive games with a home run. Dietrich is the only freshman in the Atlantic Coast Conference with more than 10 home runs this season and leads all freshmen while standing second in the league with 56 RBI on the year. Game 1: Boston College 5 Maryland 4 (10 innings)

Pinch-hitter Harry Darling was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 10th inning to plate Eric Campbell with the winning run as the Eagles defeated Maryland, 5-4.

ATLANTA, Ga. — Despite having the week off for final exams, the Yellow Jackets (32-13) were able to continue their hot hitting in a 10-6 victory over Coastal Carolina (36-10). Thomas Nichols, Charlie Blackmon, Jeff Rowland, and Jason Haniger each hit a home run off Coastal Carolina starter Bobby Gagg. Haniger, who led the team with 3 RBI, later hit a clutch 8th inning 2-run single to seal the victory for Georgia Tech.

Florida State at Clemson

The Florida State Seminoles head to Clemson SC for a Saturday-Monday series against the Clemson Tigers. The Seminoles enter with a 37-7 overall record while being 19-5 in the ACC. The Seminoles have been one of the better hitting teams in the country with a team batting average of .346. All-American catcher candidate Buster Posey is the top hitter on the team with a .470 average and a team leading 13 homers on the year. CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Sophomore third baseman Mark Sobolewski tied a career-high with six RBI and senior right-hander Enrique Garcia tossed seven scoreless innings as No. 1 Miami (36-5, 20-2 ACC) shut out No. 16 Virginia, 10-0, completing a three-game series sweep of the Cavaliers (32-15, 13-11 ACC) Sunday afternoon at Mark Light Field.
