Hempstead, NY-Hofstra University Director of Athletics Jack Hayes today announced the appointment of Patrick Anderson to the position of head baseball coach. Anderson, the 13th coach in the program’s 71-year history, replaces Chris Dotolo, who resigned in June.
Anderson, who served as an assistant coach at Hofstra for three seasons from 1998 to 2001, has spent the last eight seasons as a minor league hitting and catching instructor with the Kansas City Royals Professional Baseball Club. Read the rest of this entry »

Player of the Week: Nick Campbell (Bryant), Little Falls
Nick Campbell batted .375 (9-for-24) and compiled a .531 on-base percentage in eight games for the Miners last week. Campbell scored a team-high seven runs, drove in five runs, drew eight walks and tallied three extra-base hits. He reached base via hit or walk in seven of eight contests and he had three multi-hit and two multi-walk games. The Raynham, Mass., native had his best game against Amsterdam on July 5. He was 2-for-4 with three RBI, two walks, two stolen bases, one double, one triple and one run scored as Little Falls won, 11-5. Read the rest of this entry »

HEMPSTEAD, NY - Hofstra University Head Baseball Coach Chris Dotolo has resigned his position effective June 15, Pride Director of Athletics Jack Hayes announced today.
Dotolo, the 12th baseball coach in Hofstra history, took over the reigns of the program when the Pride joined the competitive Colonial Athletic Association in 2002. He completed his seventh season in 2008 with a 19-36 season record and a 7-23 mark in the CAA. In his seven seasons, Dotolo posted a 125-244-1 record. He is just the third Hofstra coach to win 100 games for the Pride, a feat he accomplished with a 10-9 win over James Madison on April 21, 2007, joining Jack Smith (179 wins) and Rich Martin (127 wins). Game 1: Northeastern 8 Hofstra 5
Mike Lyon hit a career-high three home runs and drove in six runs, leading the Huskies to an 8-5 win against Hofstra in game one of a doubleheader at Friedman Diamond Saturday afternoon. Lyon’s third homer of the game gave the Huskies the walk-off win in what was a seven-inning contest.
Other than Lyon, Mike Tamsin and David Gustafson helped pace the Husky offense. Tamsin went 3-4 and scored a run, while Gustafson finished 2-3 with an RBI-double. Tony DiCesare also chipped in with an RBI-double to complete the Husky offensive attack. Read the rest of this entry »

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Tyler Mickits hit a two-run home run and Matt Lea, Neil Holland and Zack Pitts combined on a three-hit shutout, as the University of Louisville Cardinals blanked Morehead State 2-0 Tuesday at Jim Patterson Stadium.
After catcher Jeff Arnold reached on an infield single to lead off the fifth inning and moved to third on a throwing error, Mickits belted his first home run of the season deep to right center to put the Cards (27-16) on top 2-0 for the only scoring of the game. Read the rest of this entry »

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Senior Paul Juliano hit a grand slam in the seventh inning to help William and Mary earn a 9-4 victory against Delaware on a cold and rainy afternoon at Plumeri Park on Sunday. With the triumph, W&M claimed the series against UD and improves its record to 18-10 overall and 9-6 in conference play.
In addition to the grand slam, Juliano went 2-for-2 with five RBI. The Northfield, N.J., native also drew three walks as he reached base in all five of his trips to the plate. Senior Greg Maliniak also hit a home run, while classmate Tim Park went 3-for-5 with a run scored. Junior Jeff Jones came up big with a 2-for-4 effort and scored twice. Read the rest of this entry »

Hempstead, NY- Hofstra scored three or more runs in the first three innings during which Matt Kougasian had four RBI and Nick Panzarella had three RBI as the Pride defeated Coppin State, 12-3, Wednesday afternoon. With the victory the Pride improve to 8-16 while the Eagles fall to 3-23.
Hofstra jumped out to a three-run lead in the first inning. After the first three runners reached base for the Pride, Kougasian drove a run home with a sacrifice fly for the first run. BLACKSBURG, Va., March 11, 2008 - James Madison University led from start to finish and put five runs on the board in the ninth inning to pull away from Virginia Tech for a 10-3 non-conference baseball win Tuesday afternoon at English Field.
JMU improved to 9-3 overall and won its fifth in a row for the first time since late in the 2006 season. It is the first five-game winning streak of entirely road games since 1995. VT dropped to 7-7 for the season. The Dukes won their third straight game at English Field with the last loss in 1998. They improved to 30-20 all-time against the Hokies, including five wins in a row and a 12-3 mark since that loss in 1998. Read the rest of this entry »

The Northeastern University baseball team defeated the Western Michigan Broncos 4-2 on Thursday afternoon at IMG Academies in Bradenton, Fla. Sophomore Charly Bashara improved to 1-0 on the season after outdueling the Broncos’ Ethan Hollingsworth.
Bashara finished with a final line of six innings, four hits, one earned run, four strikeouts and no walks, making it the second straight day that the Huskies were able to silence the heavy-hitting Bronco lineup. TAMPA, Fla. – The University of South Florida baseball team fell, 5-4, Tuesday night to the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles at Red McEwen Field.
The Bulls’ record drops to 3-4, while the Eagles improve to 8-1.
USF’s offensive attack came in the first two innings after falling behind by two after the top of the first. Redshirt freshman Ryan Lockwood spearheaded the Bulls’ offensive charge with a lead-off walk. Junior counterparts Brandon Smith and Addison Maruszak followed with a walk and a hit by pitch to fill the bases.
