WORCESTER, Mass. - Sophomore Matt Shapiro (Raynham, Mass.) threw is second career complete, picking up a seven inning shutout in the first game as the Holy Cross baseball split a doubleheader with Army this afternoon in Patriot League action, winning 9-0 and losing the second game, 16-0. AMHERST, Mass. - After spotting visiting Holy Cross an early 7-0 lead, the UMass bats came alive as the Minutemen (6-10) pounded out 16 hits, including four home runs, to defeat the Crusaders (8-14), 16-9, on Tuesday afternoon at Earl Lorden Field. Brian Baudinet (Watertown, Conn.) hit a pair of solo shots, his third and fourth of the season. Mike Donato (East Hartford, Conn.) dealt the biggest blow, a fourth inning two-out grand slam, in what turned out to be a seven run inning for the Minutemen. Adam Tempesta (Brockton, Mass.) also went deep for UMass. Freshman Garrett Butt (Marlboro, Mass.) (1-0) pitched four innings of relief to earn his first-career victory. WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Bucknell baseball team finished off its series with Army on Sunday with a sweep of the second doubleheader of the weekend. The Bison took game one, 8-5, and rode a solid pitching performance by freshman Dylan Seeley (Shavertown, Pa./Wyoming Seminary) to a 3-1 victory in game two. With the pair of wins, the Bison are now 13-10-2 on the season, 3-1 in the Patriot League, while the Black Knights fall to 6-16 and 1-3.
In game one, Army’s Andy Ernesto scored the first run of the contest in the bottom of the first, coming home on an error after reaching with a single up the middle. Mike Greco then made it 2-0 with an RBI single that plated Cole White. Read the rest of this entry »

CORAL GABLES, Fla. - Freshman catcher Yasmani Grandal drove in the game-winning run after junior Dave DiNatale hit a two-run game-tying single in the bottom of the eighth as No. 2 Miami rallied to defeat Bethune-Cookman, 7-6, Wednesday night at Mark Light Field. WORCESTER, Mass. (March 25, 2008) — Freshman Elliot Glynn’s (Los Alamitos, Calif.) grand slam in the fourth inning helped lead the University of Connecticut baseball team past Holy Cross 10-3 on Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action at Fitton Field in Worcester, Mass.

The Quinnipiac Bobcats heading north to take on the Holy Cross Crusaders in a single game on Saturday. The Bobcats were able to pick up a 7-3 victory at Fitton Field behind strong pitching from Andy Mayer and Chris Gloor. John Delaney led them at the plate by going 3-5 with a long home run that ended up on Route 290 which is the first time in many years that a ball have reached that area. The CBB will be at the Quinnipiac-Holy Cross game on Saturday between the two New England schools. Quinnipiac enters with a 2-8 overall record while Holy Cross is 4-10 on the year. Quinnipiac’s last game was Sunday when they finished a three game set with the Spartans where the Bobcats won the first game but lost the final two. SEATTLE - The Washington baseball team held Holy Cross scoreless over both ends of a doubleheader Sunday, winning 14-0 and 8-0 to sweep a four-game series at Husky Ballpark.

The Northeastern University baseball team defeated the Western Michigan Broncos 4-2 on Thursday afternoon at IMG Academies in Bradenton, Fla. Sophomore Charly Bashara improved to 1-0 on the season after outdueling the Broncos’ Ethan Hollingsworth.
Bashara finished with a final line of six innings, four hits, one earned run, four strikeouts and no walks, making it the second straight day that the Huskies were able to silence the heavy-hitting Bronco lineup.
