5/31/2008 – College Station, Texas- The UIC baseball team overcame a three-run deficit by scoring five times in the fifth en route to a 9-5 win over Dallas Baptist at the 2008 NCAA College Station Regional.

A&M 22 Houston 4
Texas A&M set a school record with six home runs and scored its most runs in an NCAA game since 1989 as the ninth-ranked Aggies downed Houston, 22-4, in a winner’s bracket game at the College Station Regional Saturday night before 5,202 fans at Olsen Field.
A&M (45-16) will play for the regional championship on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. against either Houston (40-23) or UIC.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Senior second baseman Ryan Lormand and junior first baseman Jimmy Cesario each went 4-for-5 to lead the University of Houston baseball team to a come-from-behind, 9-5 win over No. 2 seed Dallas Baptist during the first game of the 2008 NCAA College Station Regional at Olsen Field.
After falling behind 3-0 in the first inning, the Cougar offense rallied to take the lead with five runs in the fourth inning. After Patriots knotted the game at 5-5 with two runs in the seventh inning, the Cougars put the game away with four runs in the final two frames, including a three-spot in the eighth inning. The Texas A&M Aggies will be hosting the Regional in College Station this weekend sporting a 43-16 overall record while going 19-8 in the Big 12. Dallas Baptist got the second seed in the Regional after having a solid year as an Independent team as they went 37-17. The Houston Cougars are the third seed with a 39-22 record and 14-10 in Conference USA. The fourth seeded team is Illinois-Chicago who is 34-20 with a 17-6 record in the Horizon League. Share The new Fieldturf field at UIC is close to completion so the Flames will be able to practice later in the fall season and open up the home schedule earlier in the year. This is an important project for the Chicago based school as they will become one of 19 Division 1 schools to have this surface. The full release is available here.

Share The Butler Bulldogs have released the 2008 schedule. The Bulldogs will open the season on February 29th at Kentucky which is the start of a four game series against the SEC school. The Bulldogs will head the next weekend to Murray State for a three game set. They will face a full Horizon League schedule where the road schedule is highlighted by a trip to UIC on April 4th and 5th. UIC is expected to win the conference title after making the NCAA Tournament in 2007. The home schedule is highlighted by a three game set against Wright State on April 11th and 12th. The conference tournament will take place from May 21st-25th at Eastwood Field which is the home of the Mahoning Valley Scrappers. The full Butler schedule is available here.

The Long Beach Dirtbags picked up a 4-3 victory over Illinois-Chicago to advance to the championship round of the NCAA Regional. The Dirtbags got a solid start from Omar Arif who pitched six innings while allowing only three runs (one earned). Brandon Godfrey went 2-4 with a run scored and a run batted in. LBSU advances to face UCLA later on Sunday. UIC ends the season with a 35-21 record.

The UCLA Bruins clinched a spot in the Super Regionals by knocking off Long Beach State 7-4.

The Long Beach State got a complete game from starting pitcher Andrew Liebel as he scattered 11 hits and only gave up three runs as the Dirtbags picked up a 6-3 victory over Pepperdine. The offense was led by Robert Perry who went 2-4 with 2 runs scored. LBSU will play the loser of UIC/UCLA on Sunday.

UCLA 3 UIC 1
The UCLA Bruins advanced in the NCAA Regional to the Championship game by knocking off the UIC Flames 3-1. UCLA starter Gavin Brooks threw a two hitter while allowing only one run in the game. UIC starter Zach Peterson gave up 14 hits in nine innings but only allowed three runs. UCLA will play the winner of the UIC and LBSU elimination game in the nightcap Sunday. UCLA Recap UIC Recap
